  1. Hmm... I mean their website says everyone with a BA and above are eligible. I wonder if that happens just because people at that stage tend to be strong writers?
  2. I should have been more specific -- I'm an intern at a major NYC museum and met the director of the program at a meeting. So, this call came from him directly, not from admissions. I appreciate your response, but I really am hoping to have someone speak to the program, since it is relatively new (I think less than 10 years old). Also, any info on CUNY City College art history MA would be lovely! HALP. I'm just really stressed out about doing museum studies. A year ago, it was a great fit, but now I'm sure I want to work in a curatorial department, and know what I need to do to get there. But, I'm terrified of going yet another year not being in a program, because I've already waited one, and I need to do an MA to 1) get some good PhD writing samples since I've lost most of my undergrad work thanks to a stolen computer and 2) narrow down my interests.
  3. Anyone have any thoughts on the SVA Curatorial Practice program? I just got a personal call from them asking me to apply, even though it's after the deadline. I've already been accepted to the Museum Studies program at NYU (last year, I deferred), and am planning on pursuing an art history PhD in the future. Which program do y'all think will be the best stepping stone to a PhD?
  4. Hi all! I'm wondering if anyone has any information about the Whitney ISP program (specifically the curatorial and critical studies program)? I know it's very competitive, and am hoping a successful past applicant can give some pointers as to what the program is looking for / the general interests of their cohort and a sense of where participants in their careers. To give some background: I'm curatorial intern at MoMA right now, got my BA in Art History and Theory in 2013 and worked as an associate director of a contemporary gallery for three years. I'm starting at NYU's museum studies MA in the fall (deferred for a year, which is how I know I'm accepted), and plan to pursue an Art History PhD at Columbia or NYU afterwards. I'm most interested in the critical studies program, and am mainly wondering if it would be prudent to wait until I've done at least part of my masters.
  5. @radredhead Seriously. HALP. But general question for all: I got an email from a school I applied to like 2 weeks ago saying it was "favorably reviewed" while being reminded that my transcript was missing (oops). I sent it to them in literally 2 minutes though, but besides confirmation that the transcript was received, it's been radio silent. Called them earlier this week and they said it was still under review and to wait 3-4 more weeks. BUT, it's a program with decent funding so I'm like...do I wait? Do I not? Ugh.
  6. @radredhead nope nothing yet! Im still waiting for the package from NYU too. I just want to decide already! That said, if neither of them are well funded I might wait and apply again next year. I'm too poor for much more debt... :'(
  7. @radredhead @welshforjohn the masters at NYU. Not ready for a Ph.D. and not sure I need it for what I want to do. Yeah lol I grew up in LA and never got my license (it's a long story), but I do feel it would be very limiting up at Bard. The facilities are nice and they do a lot for their students as far as trying to make them comfortable. That said, it felt very insular. I didn't know Irvine had a program, but from what you described, it sounds like you might get more hands on experience with curating because it is integrated? Just speculating.
  8. Yeah my big problem is: no drivers license. I really like the program, but also feel just as good about NYU. DECISIONS @radredhead what other program are you deciding between?
  9. Off topic from the current discussion: how does everyone feel about CCS Bard? I can't get past the fact that it is SO isolated. I visited before applying and I'm not kidding, like middle of nowhere empty. Coming from a city, it's a big shift. I also feel like I could make better connections doing a program in NYC, which is where I want to end up. Any thoughts?
