  1. I'll be applying for a joint MPP/MBA program next year as well. From what I understand, each respective school regards your application separately. I've read, however, that some folks, for instance if they were wait listed, could try to plead their case for admittance to the school causing issue..if there is one. Hopefully neither one of us have to go down that road! Best of luck during the entire process!
  2. Hey, I don't attend USA, but I have a few friends that do. USA is not known for much, but their SLP program is top notch. Having grown up on the Coast, and lived about an hour away from Mobile, I have heard great things about that one program in particular. I can't really help much in regards to school atmosphere and the like, but Mobile is an amazing city. I think you will find that it's very comparable to Cali...but only weather wise lol.
  3. I'm also down to help with the load. Let me know if you need assistance.
  4. Hi Abi, Will you be studying via a University? I would first check to see if they have housing on campus, as this would be your best and cheapest route. The units typically come furnished and you don't have to pay for utilities. As they are subsidized by the German government, however, they are constantly in high demand. You'll have to really push the button to get a spot. More traditional means would see you venture over toward: http://www.wg-gesucht.de/ For instance, which serves as a hub for people looking for roommates or to get out of their lease for whatever amount of time. There are thousands of sites like it, but that's a good starting point should you need to utilize it. Hope I provided assistance.
  5. Hi there. For those that have found out (specifically New York folk) who are you all going through in order to get the health forms done? I'm not from New York, so my physician is not here. Have no idea the avenues through which I can get these things done. I know there are health departments around the city, but do they take insurance for the various tests we have to get done? Any help would be AWESOME.
  6. WHAT!? This BUMS me OUT! I'm so sorry. Good luck with Austria!
  7. Truman is the political sciencesque field. Although, you can do what you want with either.
  8. I motion for Crimson to inducted into some type of Hall of Fame! Google Spreadsheet Honor Hall? Fulbright Tracking, Civil Engineer of Fame? Gradcafe Fulbright Guru Order? Surely something exists!
  9. German ETA People Unite! There's a Facebook group, but it's dead. I say we resurrect that group and start virtual meet and greets! Here's the link to the group. http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=123605114317873&v=wall Hope to see you there! Good luck to all of you! I check in to see how everyone is doing! Keep posting!
  10. Doubt that's the case as I've received my notification and I mailed my stuff the day OF the deadline.
  11. Austria is a special land full of special people and special rules. For some reason their program doesn't line up exactly like Fulbright. I'm sure eule can explain more, since she applied for both, but from my understanding most people applying to German countries apply for both at the same time. I should have, but oh well...thankfully I won a spot. They even had a different deadline I believe.
  12. Ich druecke dir die Daumen! Viel Glueck!
  13. You know, I haven't even looked at the acceptance letter, actually. My family had to read it out to me. From what I understand, however, I have not yet been placed. My top three choices were Berlin, Hamburg and Hessen (hoping to be placed near Frankfurt). I'd think the ETAs are on a different budget than research folks, but I am likely wrong.
  14. Hey folks, You all have become somewhat of a family to me! We've shared heartache and happiness. Disappointment and delight. Allow me to chime in with some good news! I received the "Manila Envelope of Goodness" today for an ETA slot in Germany! So very happy! Best of luck to all of you from here on out! The world is wide open to you. Elevate, -D
  15. CONGRATULATIONS! I know a few folks that received the Fellowship, and am so happy for you! I'll be applying next year. Any tips? Mind if I eventually pick your brain?
  16. When you reach 30 posts. I'm stuck in New York while my letter is being sent to Mississippi! UGH! No one is at home, neither. Such is my life!
  17. AH! YOU'RE RIGHT! Now I'm freaking out again! This had not better be a late Aprils Fool thing!
  18. I'm a JKCF Undergrad Scholar! Tremendous Scholarsihp. Best of luck!
  19. HA! I can't read Korean, but that sounds about right! Kudos to you for being awesome!
  20. Voted! Thrice! Great job! Rooting for you!
  21. Interesting observation, but it appears that the postmark dates vary across the spectrum. Some countries send both at the same time. Some send a few days later. Some send a day later. Hard to quantify!
  22. Ahaha. First world problems indeed! "Waaah! I want to know if I received this Fellowship to teach English in another country for a year! I don't care how much they're inundated with other stuff, I need a decision now!" I think I'll stop complaining now.
  23. SCHEISSE! Gibts doch gar nicht! I just knew we would be getting a letter in the mail sometime very soon. Deflated!
  24. Actually, I do have something to add. If she has any sort of teaching experience she could look into trying to latch onto a English teaching position. In Europe those jobs are typically pretty easy to find as a native English speaker, and they often don't require teaching experience...teaching experience, of course, would be a mega plus. Because she would bring something not readily available within the population (native English) her potential employer could argue that she should have a work Visa. That'd take care of residency issues, and she'd be paid decently to boot! Don't know the market in Finland at all, but I know this is the case in Germany.
  25. That is such crap! I'm sorry you had to go through that. Can't believe your adviser would have the gumption to say such a thing. I don't really have much to have, but I'm rooting for you two!
