  1. Hey. I'll also be applying for this program next year (joint MBA hopefully). I'm going to eventually give them admissions a call after the admissions deadline passes to get a bit of clarity, but I would also encourage you to take a look at this site which details a bit of what they're looking for. I wonder if these courses have always been a requirement? I've been researching programs for a while and don't remember seeing this before. I would also encourage you to not conflate work experience with, what seems to be, an emphasis on the acquisition of a purely academic background before entering the program.
  2. Hey @mrs12 I have never applied, so all I can do is offer you the best of luck!
  3. So I received this today in my inbox. If you're planning to apply to Rangel this year...or whenever, please note the change in due date:
  4. I absolutely love Budapest. One of my favorite cities. Can't comment much on the prospects after finishing up there, but I know there was one user here that went there to do some sort of one year degree...then went back to the US, I think Georgetown specifically, to complete another IR degree.
  5. I've been to two BPCs. They're great for meeting people and the talks are often quite good as well. If you're going to attend HKS definitely go if you can.
  6. Thank you very much! I was taking a gander at the site and saw that there is now an analytic/quantitative resume requirement. I saw the example. It's extremely detailed. How much of a time investment is it, if you don't mind my asking?
  7. I'm starting the process now to apply for Fall 2017. You mind sharing with me as well? To the general group, any initial advice that you've submitted the application and, for some, Fellowships? Best of luck!
  8. I know several Rangel and Pickering Fellows. Given the exchange here, I'd say ya'll would be great additions to the Foreign Service! Best of luck!
  9. Bump! Deadline is next week! Good luck.
  10. Other than peace of mind? No, because applications aren't evaluated by the national screening committee until after the deadline.
  11. A friend turned down her Full Research Grant in Germany just so you're aware. Also know of another ETA to Germany turning hers down as well. Here's hoping for you all!
  12. From my experience, your total financial aid package can not exceed the cost of attendance. So with me, for instance, during undergrad I had a scholarship that would have paid up to $30k per year, but because the school I attended only had approx $20k in total CoA, I left $10k on the table each year. The process by which state schools go about increasing their CoA tends to be political. With my alma mater, they took a poll every year, but generally didn't budge too much. This is because they didn't want students to think financing their education at their institution was out of reach. It's a crap position to be in, to say the very least.
  13. Hey! Thanks a lot! I'll be doing research on Germany's workforce development and vocational and education training systems. I know folks doing a wide array of research, though. Here is a link to this year's fellows and a description of their projects. Here is a link to testimonials and other information from prior years. I saw so many types of projects! If you were applying for a DAAD I just know you'd be a good fit! PM me if you have any more questions!

This year at least 4 of the 10 from America were current grad students. That's not a hindrance at all!

For folks that are interested in research in Germany, take a look at the German Chancellor Fellowship. All you need is a Bachelor's degree to apply. I just won. They are looking for leaders. Think you're ready? http://www.humboldt-foundation.de/web/german-chancellor-fellowship.html
  16. I won! It's extremely surprising more folks don't know about this program, especially considering it's generous stipend. Here's the website: http://www.humboldt-foundation.de/web/german-chancellor-fellowship.html Hit me up if you have any questions.

Yep. Monday is also an off day and good luck getting anything from anyone on a Tuesday. Just so ya'll know.
  18. I did Germany ETA and knew a few folks that had a Masters in education. Why did they say it would be held against you?

These grants typically don't look at the aspect of being in country for a significant amount of time recently, but they don't tend to fund those that have been in country for approx. a year or more straight. From what I've heard, it's due more so to their feeling it's not an actual exchange at that point, which is the point of most programs. It's a horrible feeling having to wait. I don't even remember what I was doing around this time with Fulbright, but it wasn't as stressful as my most recent wait was. It got so bad I'd wake up multiple times in the night and check my e-mail! I hope this isn't permanent!

Ya'll keep the faith! I'm pulling for ya!
  21. Hey potential lurkers/potential applicants! I just found out I'm moving forward in the process. We interview at the end of April.

It looks like my stay here will be somewhat short! Got an e-mail at 3 this morning letting me know I was moving forward in the application for an interview!

Given that I'm also waiting for a German grant (the German Chancellor Fellowship), the notification timeline is about the same (end of March), and that the HQ for the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation is in Bonn as well, can I come join ya'll in agony of the misery of waiting!? What I'm waiting for is a bit different in that I only find out if I made it to the next round. The second round is composed of flying to Germany and interviewing (end of April approx.) then I think you find out while in country. The deadline for the application was waaaay back in September of last year. I've already done Fulbright and don't remember it being this bad. This wait, however is absolutely killing me!
  24. The year I did it (3 years ago) they reimbursed folks once in country. At least that's what folks were saying in the Gradcafe thread.
  25. Gone head, gone head! Big ups!
