  1. I actually did my undergrad there so I'm pretty familiar with the campus/town/dept if you have anything you want to know!
  2. I keep checking both my email and this page just as frequently hoping to hear some news!
  3. @aml149 @AspiringScholar17 Congrats guys!!! Great school!!
  4. Didn't apply to UF but I am going to Northeasterns pre-admission!
  5. Just got the email from Northeastern inviting me to the pre-admissions weekend!! So excited!!
  6. @AspiringScholar17 I was also scrolling through the forum acceptances page and it looks like last year northeastern let people know about interviews on the 24th :XXX
  7. GOOD LUCK GUYS! If we all get in I vote to plan our own visiting weekend together! @AspiringScholar17 @aml149 @HedgieLove
  8. @aml149 @AspiringScholar17 I've been in contact with the grad director from cincy and he said they're meeting early next week and announcing soon after that- around ten days or so!
  9. Very helpful! Do you happen to remember around what time they let you know you were chosen for an interview?
  10. @aml149 ahhh thank you! One of my top choices so pretty excited PS the more anxious I get waiting the more I keep checking this forum!
  11. Congrats on interviews for those who received an invite! Might be a dumb question, but how do I make my own signature that way I can keep the trend going of letting everyone know my application statuses??
  12. @AspiringScholar17 @phdincrim2017 I didn't apply to UCI but I looked into it and last year applications were due in the beginning of November so those applicants were let known in mid December about interviewing in January. If you look through old threads most of them received word by then. I'm guessing they didn't update the interview dates to match the later deadline but I'd give it the same sort of timeline if that makes sense!
  13. I'm on the same boat! My boyfriend is moving with me wherever I go too. I went the opposite route and applied to a lot of schools (around 6) with the hopes to find the best fit for both of us. @AspiringScholar17 I would also chose fit and faculty over reputation. At the end of the day, if you're doing research you're passionate about you're bound to work harder and do more! Reputation of a school is a foot in the door but it's not a replacement for the work you put in which will stand out wherever you go and with a good mentor by your side in my opinion!
  14. Congrats!!! Did my undergrad there and can confidently say it's amazing there. My application is still incomplete because apparently one of my transcripts never went through -__- but yes Chicago is the one I applied to
  15. Wish I could be going! My mutual schools are cincinatti and northeastern from that list. Also applied to temple, Dallas, FSU and UIC. Might have applied to one or two too many ?
  16. I won't be going this year but can't wait until the wait is over and we all find out where we're going. Good luck to everyone!!
  17. Also applying to cincy, northeastern, and Dallas! I actually talked to professors and some programs have weekends for already accepted students but I know northeastern won't accept you until right after the weekend interview so they can most definitely not accept you if they feel you made the wrong impression. Most schools also accept around 15 people. Hope this helps and who knows maybe we will end up in the same place!
  18. Excited to say I got accepted to my first program: Temple University with full funding for four years! I've only applied to my top 6 programs so I'm pretty excited. Still on a waiting game / finishing up applications for the other ones that are due in January
  19. I heard the job market is looking very good for phd students in terms of academia. If not, there's a ton of government agencies, think tanks, or post docs you can get hired in. I would make sure to find a professor that is experienced in the researcher/consultant field that way you make those right connections while in the program!
  20. Hi! So I actually did my undergrad at FSU and I would highly suggest emailing specific professors from the department you'd like to work with. Your funding chances will be a lot higher if you have a faculty member who can advocate for you in the department and FSU is really great for biosocial research (they're the ones who taught me everything I know on the topic)! In terms of ranking, my professors from Fsu told me that going to a high ranked school will of course be a foot in the door for future jobs but that it really all comes down to your mentor/advisor in the program and his connections, mentorship style, and ability to guide you into getting published along with what you put into the program. I'm applying to similar schools so I'm on the same boat but hope this helps!
  21. I'm speaking on the phone with him soon as well, so that's nice to hear! I'll be at ASC so sounds like a great idea to me.
  22. Hi! You should be fine for Cin based on your experiences, scores and fit. I did my undergraduate at FSU and my professor told me that doctorate programs really look at overall fit in the program based on interests. So for instance, someone with perfect scores and gpa would still have a hard time getting into a school that doesn't have their area of focus. Ps it's also one of my top schools but for their focus on biosocial and developmental crim!
