  1. haven't heard anything... I've been forwarded to Ottawa for Vanier SSHRC though so I'm kinda expecting to be forwarded for doctoral SSHRC? Just trying to convince myself they haven't told anyone yet lol anyone heard anything?

    SSRC 2018

They might be talking about a Social Science Research Council (SSRC) fellowship in the US (not Canada's SSHRC). Also, you can see they are attending an American university.
  3. @slp_throwaway My ResearchNet status says "Submitted to Funding Organization" + I got an email from ResearchNet!
  4. @p(ache)d Thanks! Cool, you have been nominated this year you mean? What agency are you applying to?
  5. I don't think so but check with your institution. My university gave me over 1.5k last year and AGAIN this year for conferences in Europe.
  6. Thank you but haven't heard anything and it's Oct 24 and I heard they tell you ahead of time to adjust your application before it's sent to the national competition
  7. The final decisions are on March 31 but I am talking about nominations to the national competition by universities (deadline Nov. 1).
  8. has anyone heard they had been nominated yet? please reply even if you haven't heard anything. from which date is there no hope?
  9. Are you talking about the masters award? Isn't the deadline Oct. 11? If so, you should remind her asap. Also, she might just see your reminder on Tuesday (i.e., the day before the deadline) as this is a long weekend.
  10. Ok, it wasn't clear if you were an MA in your first or second year. What CV are you talking about though? There's no CV (like the CCV) part of the application... Well, I guess you can disseminate findings both through an oral presentation and a paper, especially given that your paper hasn't been published yet. The conference is like the first time you present it to a small audience and, later, with the publication, you disseminate it fully to the whole world. It would be bizarre if you were to present the same talk over and over at conferences or written down that you submitted the same manuscript to two different journals.
  11. I wouldn't say it's unethical. Also, was your paper accepted for publication or just "accepted" to be peer reviewed? Be careful when you write this down in your CV. If your manuscript is still under review, it hasn't been accepted yet. Also, you mentioned you are a new MA student...are you sure you should be applying to the doctoral competition? Again, be careful as this is the doctoral thread...
  12. Hi everyone, Who has applied to the Vanier CGS competition this year? Under which agency? What did you think about the 2017 updated process/instructions? - Have you been nominated by your department yet? - Have you been nominated by your university to the national competition? When should we hear from our university if our application is being sent to the national competition? Let's discuss the process here!
  13. Wow, the CGS! That's like the ultimate goal! Now that you are in a program your chances are probably even better
  14. My honours student told me the exact same thing today. I made her try the French version of the portal and it worked...
  15. Who is currently applying? Let's post our questions and comments here!
  16. not necessarily...think about the prestigious Canada Graduate Scholarships...
  17. expert in your area, yes--but you need concrete explanations, examples, article references, etc. you need to show how working with the same person for several years is a strength for you/in your field...for some reviewers, this could show a lack of mobility and diversity...how is your supervisor vital in conducting your graduate research? the other elements are not relevant imo
  18. Ironically I think you're the only one who can answer that question! What does your supervisor/institution bring you that others couldn't? It can be an area of expertise, a specific methodology, the strength of the program, etc.
  19. Because you are already in grad school, your chances are much higher. I think when you already have a supervisor (i.e., you write the name of your supervisor IF APPLICABLE in the application), it looks much better. And you are competing with people who are still in their undergrad who don't know yet who their advisor will be (unless a prof agrees they write their name). Having a SSHRC CGS-M will also help. Good grades/research history always helps
  20. I won that award in the past.
  21. well usually what happens is that you get the full CGS-M and the other sources should put a cap. for example i had to decline scholarships from my department when I got federal scholarships
  22. keep in mind that your research has to fall within certain categories/themes for the Trudeau
  23. thanks! where did you get that info?
