  1. So you can email them letting them know you want to appeal for more aid, and they will send you a form to fill out and require you to write a 5 page essay
  2. I am hoping to appeal for more aid as well- they only offered $500 per semester! I just emailed the school to find out the process for this, so I'll let you know when I hear back.
  3. It wouldn't hurt to email, to ask if they know when you can expect an answer. Just be polite and professional
  4. I just submitted my deposit for Michigan! Congrats, everyone
  5. Congrats to you guys as well! I heard back about a financial award (only $500 per semester- whats the point? probably because I'm in-state). I applied to the Detroit Clinical Scholars program also and haven't heard anything about it. I assumed the award email would have included it but it didn't say anything either way. I believe the special programs priority deadline was Feb. 1, so maybe there's still hope.
  6. Hey guys! I don't see any UofM threads on here so I figured I'd start one. Anyone else out there? I've been accepted to the 16 month program starting in Fall 2017, in the IP/Mental Health specialization. I'm an Ann Arbor native so I'm 99% sure I'll be attending Michigan- doing a school visit this coming Tuesday where I'll be sitting in on a class and then getting a tour and having lunch with a current student.
  7. I got the same $2,000 a year email, but it also said that based on the strength of my application, it is being considered for merit scholarships and I will hear back about that within 5 business days. So it seems like the $2,000 has nothing to do with merit, and all to do with financial aid (need).
  8. I heard back awhile ago, but I don't think I'll be going. I was awarded $21,000 (total) so it's still around the same price as all the other private schools before subtracting their scholarships. I went to visit the school and it seems really nice, but I'm not sure the program is really worth the cost, considering all of the other wonderful (cheaper) MSW programs. It is NYC though, which makes it very appealing.
  9. I actually literally just got my acceptance! They sent me an email that my admissions status had changed, and then there was a link inside my application portal to the decision. Best of luck!
  10. Hey! I submitted my application for DU's 2 year program on Halloween, but my final letter of rec wasn't submitted until Nov. 17th. Still haven't heard back, so I'm hoping it's soon! I believe their website said we should receive an admissions decision withn approx. 6-8 weeks.
  11. I submitted my application in late October and heard back about two weeks later. I must have been one of the first submitted applications, because it was so quick!
  12. I applied to NYU, Michigan, Denver, Loyola Chicago, Fordham, and Hunter. Already got my acceptances to NYU, Michigan, and Loyola, and was contacted about scheduling an interview for Hunter. I have in-state tuition for Michigan so I'd probably be crazy not to go there. Good luck everyone!
  13. The longer you work, and the type of path you take, will have a lot to do with it. My dad (63 years old) is a clinical social worker (private practice) and now makes around $200,000 a year, but he has worked his ass off to get to that point. Lots of special training, certifications, etc. Just an example of an exception to the rule.
  14. Hi there, So I plan to start the application process over the next few months to get into an MSW program for Fall '17. I'm particularly interested in more of a clinical track, but am worried to put myself in a box because I'm also interested in macro, international work and some community-based work. My main question is, how can we figure out what schools are reasonable to get accepted to? I finished undergrad in 2013 (BS in Psychology), and have been living abroad in Thailand for the past 2 and a half years (I taught English for a year and a half, and have been working at an organization that trains and places teachers into schools for the last year). My GPA from undergrad is 3.89, so I'm not too concerned about that, but I was a two-time transfer student in undergrad and switched majors many times, ultimately graduating from a university with a pretty average reputation. I also don't have a whole lot of direct experience working in a social service field, although I think I've gained many transferrable skills here in Thailand. My current job includes mentoring and supporting new teachers in Thailand, and is what has led me to be sure that clinical social work is the right path for me. I think I will have pretty strong letters of recommendations, 1 from an old ethics professor and 2 more from bosses here in Thailand. I'm not quite sure how to determine which schools would be a stretch, and which schools would be easier. I'm from Ann Arbor, so of course UofM would be an obvious choice, but I've also looked at schools in NYC (NYU, Fordham, Hunter, Columbia), and University of Denver as potential options. I also realize I need to spend some more time researching which schools have stronger clinical vs. research-based programs. Does anyone have any useful input? Am I overthinking or overshooting my expectations? Thank you!!
