So, we'll get calls for acceptances and waitlists, and emails for outright rejections, right? Does anyone know what time the emails tend to come? It makes sense to have them set to auto-send fairly early in the day to get them out of the way because I have to imagine the program faculty will be crazy busy calling people/updating waitlists etc. Also I would like this to be true because I could assume that no emails by 9am or whatever means I've at least got a shot.

I asked about things I was interested in; basically, I treated this time like the school was trying to win me over and prove that they could meet my needs. I am interested in public health, so I asked about what kind of public health opportunities the school offered. If you have an idea of what kind of research you might want to do, you can ask about that. If you want to do a rotation in a non-standard area (cardiac, laboratory, something else?) make sure that they offer the rotation you want. If you speak another language, ask how they're gonna help you learn to counsel in your other language.

Honestly, I don't think it could possibly make much difference in you getting in; when a school is interviewing 50+ people in the span of a couple weeks, there is no way to keep those interviews straight without some kind of standardized scoring system. I would bet anything that your interviewers "scores" / take notes on their impressions of you for your admissions file within a few hours of your leaving the campus - long before any kind of thank you note could be received to alter their impression of you. I am just very fond of my stationary and the use thereof.

Question about Thank You notes after interviews: Are you guys writing individual notes to each faculty member with whom you interviewed, or just one general note to the program faculty over all? I loved my experience at BU, but a lot of what excited me about the program were aspects I talked about with multiple faculty members and it would be challenging to write four thank you letters that were not redundant.

Southwest cancelled my flight to Boston tomorrow! Luckily they let me reschedule my flight to today so I'll still make my interviews. Hope you don't get trapped in the city, @WBGC!

According to the time stamp, UCI sent me the interview email at 2:06 AM, which makes me think that it was some kind of auto-emailer. That combined with the wording of the email ("The faculty admissions committee has completed its initial review of applications to the Master's Program in Genetic Counseling and has selected about a quarter of the candidates whom we would like to invite for a visit and interviews. ") make me think that they've likely sent most of them, but pretty much all the schools have sent out a handful more when some applicants declined their interviews. Does anyone know how many candidates they have per interview day?

I don't wear a wedding ring because it's not my style and I'm kicking myself for not coming up with one for my last interview. I'm afraid I seem like I'm hiding something when I talk about my supportive husband who works from home when I don't even really *look* married.

Personally, I'm always looking for an reason to dress up. No one's gonna dock you points for looking like you're taking this interview thing too seriously, y'know? Here are the only two photos I have of my outfit from my Emory interview - one is a ridiculous selfie of me breaking low-carb edge that I sent to my partner. I'm thrilled that I had interviews as an excuse to buy these pieces - I feel like a stone cold fox. https://www.dropbox.com/s/vgu2dot3utvaojm/outfit1.jpg?dl=0 https://www.dropbox.com/s/6tmfpwrzvoy1w7r/outfit2.jpg?dl=0

Wow, me too. Four of us are waitlisted? How long is this waitlist? Did they just put everyone who didn't get an interview on it?

No, but I really hope they tell me soon. I'm getting antsy; I'm waiting to on Boston to book my flight to my Brandeis interview, and ticket prices are starting to go up. I guess it's probably too late to get the email today, so hopefully tomorrow? Otherwise I might just have to go ahead and book something.

I also received a rejection from UC Denver yesterday. I expected it, but it's too bad - Denver is a pretty cool city. I really want to hear back from BU one way or the other so that I can book a flight to Boston already. I had this idea in my mind that I needed five interviews to feel somewhat 'safe', like, to have a reasonable assurance that I will get into grad school somewhere next year, and it's looking like that is not going to happen. That, of course, doesn't mean I have no chance - I only need to get into one school - but I can't feel optimistic. I wish there was a way to not give this process so much of my emotional energy, especially when there is a decent chance I'll have to do it again next year. 68 more days.

I posted that table on, like, page nine of this thread, maybe? I just made it by a aggregating the data from the results tab, so it's not gospel or anything. I was just trying to make a quick reference for those not wanting to dig through the results from previous years.

I wore closed-toed, loafer-looking 2.5" heels because I live in heels and have no trouble walking in them, but I am definitely the exception. Only one other person at Emory was wearing heels - the women in flats did not look unprofessional or out of place. There was a walk around campus that lasted 45 minutes - if you're not me (seriously, I take my kids for a walk in the park wearing wedge boots, I wear pumps to campus, I am probably doing irreparable damage to my feet) flats are a better choice. I brought my laptop bag, which is a fancy leather one kinda like this https://www.amazon.com/Iswee-Vintage-Briefcase-Messenger-Shoulder/dp/B01EMZNKFU/ref=sr_1_8?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1487001394&sr=1-8&keywords=leather+attache I didn't really notice the other candidates bags, and I doubt anyone noticed mine either. Something neutral that all your stuff fits in and has room for the folder that the program will give you is totally adequate.

UC Irvine emailed me early because they hadn't received my transcripts. I resent them, and inquired about a timeline for interviews. The administrator that I talked to said that they hadn't finalized what days they will be conducting interviews. Apparently, they are laid back out there in sunny southern California.

Don't do that! Don't sabotage yourself! I know how you're feeling right now; I have literally never wanted something this much in my life. It's so vulnerable to put yourself out there, to let yourself want something this much. It's brutal to be rejected. The natural reaction is to want to protect yourself by not letting yourself be vulnerable to further rejection, but don't let negative emotions make this decision for you. You'll regret it if you don't try.

Yeah, I was in the same boat in regards to financial practicality. Thinking about moving to the bay area with two kids made my head spin - preschool tuition is seriously $20k+ a year there. For a three year old. I mean, if it cost the same as college, she better be taking calc and reading Joyce. I felt very lucky that the first school to get back to me invited me to interview - it really made a difference in my overall anxiety. For like a week. Then I returned to my usual terror-level-red/Morrissey-on-loop state of constant panic and despair.
