It's user input oversight. I've noticed the dates a day ahead when I have entered in my own results. I'm not sure when the system ticks over on its own, but I imagine people aren't paying as much attention to the changeable date. Just my own two cents.

Very true! (I'm doing both.)

I think most important will be posting in the Results Profile thread that somebody will likely take the initiative to create soon. That has a lot more space for quite a bit more information, advice, etc. It allows better contextualization of stats rather than solely just the GPA/GRE info.

That sounds promising.

Best (proper) ranking of graduate programs
tkid86 replied to curvilineardisparity's topic in Political Science Forum
@torschlusspanik I think it's less about "too bad to be ranked" than it about the fact that those that do care about rankings and use them when applying to graduate school... are not likely to apply to anything outside of T-50. Ranking anything beyond T-50 would then be spent time that may not have needed to be spent. As for them maybe just not being evaluated... possibly? I haven't actually read through the methodology of ranking the schools by USWNR. EDIT: Because technically you could continue the rankings beyond 50... but I guess, yes, in a way, "too bad to be ranked" works but the language seems a bit misleading. I don't think it means they're necessarily bad programs.- 12 replies

It's up there. My top three consistently change in ranking depending on my mood. Is it your top choice?

ISA is February 22-25, so I think that'll be a crazy week for me. I'm the only one of my friends applying to graduate school this cycle (they're all waiting a year or two for a myriad of reasons), so nobody besides me staring sadly at my mobile.
-
I'm also waiting on Syracuse, though I'm expecting most of the rest of my results to roll in while I'm at ISA. The panels will keep me distracted enough from checking my e-mail and the application portals every hour.

IR (primary) and political theory here. It's a good thing if there are less comparativists applying this year, right? (Good for you, that is. Less competition?)

Thanks for the information! Are you at OSU now?

Hi @dododo — American national here. Haven't had any official word on funding from OSU. From one of my POIs that contacted me: "... funding decisions are made separately outside the department, but everyone gets at least 5 years of tuition and living expenses in some form, so this shouldn't be a problem. Not sure how long before you'll hear about the outcome of that process (Bear would know)..." I will likely e-mail Professor Braumoeller early in the week next week to see if he might be able to give a timeline. Recruitment weekend isn't until the end of March, so hopefully we'll know before then... EDIT: This does contradict something that somebody said earlier insofar as OSU giving out unfunded acceptances... I don't know if that is actually true or not.
-
Congrats all on their recent acceptances. I still haven't even gotten an e-mail yet from OSU... hoping to hear something via e-mail today and also hoping that work will keep me distracted enough not to check my inbox and spam folder every half hour. I couldn't sleep, though, so I got up and sent official transcripts just to get that out of the way so I don't have to worry about it down the road. Here's to early morning productivity?

Derp. I actually just read the dates wrong. Sorry, folks! You're right, and I'm wrong. My brain was looking at the day of the month and not the actual month. /I think I am also just wishing it was mid-February so more results would be out.

Based on the timeline of last year's notifications on the results page, I'm not sure they are trolls. I do think that @RevTheory1126 could be correct in that some people may just lurk the forums and post in the results. EDIT: I derped. They're trolls. I still think there's something to people lurking and posting results, though.
-
Stay optimistic! I still haven't received formal notification either -- just checked the portal. But it's not over until it's over.
-
I interviewed, as well. I had also spoken with a POI last summer before I even applied. But as @correlatesoftheory said, no interview does not mean a rejection. I think that has been demonstrated in past cycles, too.
-
I also received my OSU decision via portal. International relations subfield.

They aren't mocking Boston University. They're making fun of Boson University, which was a made up school with made up stats by a troll trying to make a funny. And so, they were referring to the the fake stats as funny because, if they were real, they would likely have indicated a not-so-great school as it would not have been very competitive. EDIT: Am I feeding a troll now?
-
If I recall correctly, I believe they were having their last adcomm meeting this week.

Ice breaker

I think I'm going to go crazy waiting for OSU results. (Not expecting anything until at least Friday, but that doesn't mean I can't be optimistic for sooner.)
-
I'm just guessing here, but I would notify international students earlier if possible, due to the amount of bureaucratic legal/immigration work they may have to undertake in addition to the logistics of moving from overseas (if not already located Stateside). Other than that? Your guess is as good as mine.
-
I would argue against that looking at the survey data from the 2015 and 2016 cycles. It looks as if they notify international and domestic around the same time.
-
Not anxious necessarily... I've had my applications in since October (had to — was out of the country with limited internet access) and have been more or less fine since then. But now I am ready to know the outcome of all that hard work and move forward to figure out what next (and start planning; I'm a planner).

I think Ohio State should be coming soon. Afaik, adcom met today (and may meet again once more next week?).
