  1. Last year Uncg let people know around Jan 25-26. I’m hoping to get an interview this year since it’s the only instate option for me. Also I'm getting nervous about Brandeis I haven’t heard back either ?
  2. I’m comforted knowing I’m not the only one. Best of luck to us!
  3. Thank you! I really hope I hear back from a couple programs this year. I went through and rewrote my personal statement which previously focused on trying to explain the GPA to instead address it in a way that underscores the rest of my better aspects as an applicant ?
  4. Taking Graduate classes to show you can handle the coursework is definitely a good idea. One of the things my application was missing last year was a solid advocacy experience (some of the programs admitted that applications that did not have that didn’t make it to first review). Other things that were recommended were trying to get more exposure to the field of genetic counseling, (which is something I’m still working on, has anyone taken the University of Cinncinati online Genetic counseling cases course?), retaking the GRE (my original scores were passable but higher ones are usually more competitive) and in general I was told that because it’s not uncommon for people to be applying for their second or third times, sometimes it can’t be helped when other applicants have that much more experience over you. Best of luck to us all though! A lot of the programs were generally friendly, this year when applying I made sure to pick schools that emphasized that a low GPA wouldn’t automatically disqualify an applicant.
  5. Hey guys, I’m a second time applicant this cycle. Last clue I had one interview which was pretty good considering my low under Graduate GPA (2.86 due to personal hardships). I did contact programs I applied to for application feedback for this cycle and applied as much of it as I could to help me be a better applicant this time. I am nervous that I might not hear back from many programs this cycle because I haven’t accomplished as much as I had originally hoped I’d be able to. A year goes by really quick. This year I’ve applied to 10 programs so I hope I hear back from a few. Undergraduate GPA- 2.86 Genomic advocacy Graduate certificate GPA - 3.85 so far (I’m doing 3 classes in the spring) Old GRE scores: 157/154/4.0 (V/Q/AW) New scores: 162/166/4.5 Old volunteer experience: volunteered with a free clinic for people who have no insurance (for 5+ years). New Volunteering experiences: I started volunteering with a sexual assault crisis line in august. I also am a volunteer Sunday school teacher. I was a camp counselor this summer and have been more active in the networking aspect of the clinic I was volunteering with last year. Anyone else applying with a lower than ideal GPA?
  6. Yeah I got the same one. Doesn't seem like I'd have a very good chance of getting in.
  7. Someone got a call from UAMS but nothing here yet. Email or otherwise ?
  8. I'm literally the same but I don't think the school I'm waiting to hear from has started sending replies out.
  9. So are rejection emails going out first or does it seem like they're doing calls first?
  10. That's rough, hang in there, fingers crossed for better outcomes from your remaining programs!
  11. No sleep either. I keep panicking the minute I hear my email update on my phone. I'm waiting to hear back from one program so in my mind I've already gone over all the possible outcomes. But still if I'm being rejected I'd rather know asap so I can stop being nervous
  12. I haven't yet, I know Lacey said she would be emailing schedules a week before the interview day. I would also appreciate any one who was able to share their interview experience with me
  13. That would be amazing! But I wanna go in prepared in case it doesn't work out. Anyone else habitually talking to themselves lately---like mock interviewing themselves?
  14. UAMS, they give interviews to everyone who applies though. But still it'll be good experience regardless the outcome
  15. Hey guys! unfortunately it seems I will only be interviewing at Arkansas this round---but I'm still psyched. I am kind of stressed because I know the odds are against me but I still want to use the opportunity to the fullest. Any tips? Advice? Also can whoever who was emailing the PDF a few pages earlier forward me it: hssayeda@ncsu.edu any and all help is needed and welcomed, thanks!
  16. Hey guys, I feel like I'm probably a weaker candidate with a GPA that just barely hits a 3.0. However my GRE scores were great with atleast 70th percentile scores in each category. I have a lot (6years+) of advocacy experience working in a local clinic to provide afford healthcare to those who don't have access to insurance. I work as a receptionist at the clinic so I have a lot of one on one interactions with patients. I'm also an on call translator for patients who only speak Arabic. My undergraduate degree was a B.S. In genetics. I have arranged to shadow a local GC in January. So far I've applied to: UNCG, UAMS and SLC. I'm also hoping to get 3-4 more applications in. I am targeting programs that state that they are interested in promoting diversity in the profession, as an Arab American I feel like I fit that category. UNCG is my top pick since it is local and I wouldn't have to move. I've called UAMS and they seem really friendly, the receptionist let me know that they offer interviews to ANYONE who submits a complete application. So if you're nervous like I am about not hearing back for interviews I would suggest applying to The program atleast to help gain experience with the interviewing. The early application deadline has passed but you can still apply. I heard back from UNCG and they asked me to take embryology since it was a prerequisite class I was missing. The program head sent me information about taking it online so hopefully that means they're interested in at least an interview. I'm kind of nervous about the waiting game at this point.
