  1. Congrats to you and everyone else! Here's the link from last year's Fulbright discussion where everyone listed their country and when they received a letter/package in the mail telling them whether they were rejected or accepted: https://spreadsheets.google.com/ccc?key=taWW8xiKve1Tm6Ow6bHdhYA#gid=0 It's a very good list. I'm planning on setting one up around early March, since I think that is when the Germany peeps started receiving notifications. It also seems that regular envelopes were either rejections or alternates, while large manila envelopes were a good sign! So check your mail carefully!
  2. Hi Marc, Although I'm a finalist for Fulbright, it doesn't mean I'm gonna get it. I also applied for a DAAD grant. However, my field is engineering, so I'm pretty sure we're on opposite sides of the spectrum when it comes to research topic/stuff. BUT I haven't heard from DAAD. I'm just gonna take whatever comes to me. Do you know which stipend is greater? (Not that money is important .. but it is ... since I do need to sleep in a bed and eat food ...) Julian
  3. Hi myacu! Welcome to our forum! Yes, we are all finalists (including yourself) and have to wait until the last round. It's weird to consider ourselves "finalists', I guess, but it is the "final round", even though there were only like two? But congratulations! Now we wait, again, albeit for a slightly shorter (hopefully) time period for the final results!
  4. Hey Damis! I'm planning on doing my research in Bonn with the university there. How about you? Do you state your preferences for where you'd like to do your ETA? And congrats!
  5. What did the folks say about it last year? What was wrong with it? Hmm, I kind of announced it on Facebook b/c I was so freakin' excited.
  6. hey mbv, congrats to you as well! It seems WSU did really well this year. I think our FPA has done an amazing job. I know of another person going through. You must keep us informed of happenings! Perhaps, one day we will meet either in Pullman, Germany, or Botswana!
  7. Any other finalists for Germany?
  8. Read the fine print at the bottom: Don't forget to send your transcripts! Better request and send them off now before forgetting a silly, minute thing like this!
  9. Aww man! I'm sorry! But didn't you have other fellowships/opportunities you were pursuing in addition to Fulbright?
  10. Yeah, got the same generic email. This is very exciting. I was going crazy.
  11. I'm in shock. JUST got an email from Fulbright U.S. Student Program. Everyone check your emails!!!! It's a good day!!!!
  12. Don't count yourself out so soon! You know, I find it interesting how most of the topics people conduct research on are in the social sciences. Being an engineer, I'm not too sure of what the "issues" are within social scientists and blah blah, but I do think they look at the relevancy of the topic? I mean, mine was almost too technical - I'm looking at integrated modeling of the nitrogen cycle into a hydrologic (water) model, by taking ideas from the university I am going to where they do crop/grassland modeling (crops=N fertilizer application). What was your topic? Was it similar to when you applied last year?
  13. Or at least give hints in smiley faces! I was "hoping" for a hint ... but before I got the email I realized a hint might just make this waiting worse. I'll take the hint as neutral to good. Haha. But don't worry! We'll all find out DEFINITIVELY tomorrow. Does anyone know what time they send the results out? I think someone alluded to this question above.
  14. Now let's not get carried away. So I'm not one to be very optimistic. Unless my campus advisor was a cold-hearted B, then she would probably say that, but she isn't. Haha. But I will wait ... this somewhat eases my anxiety ...
  15. So I also emailed my campus advisor and she basically said the following: 1. She has gotten the results. 2. She can't tell me b/c Fulbright said so. 3. I will find out tomorrow. 4. She is "pleased with the results." [smiley face] Hmm, I don't want to make something out of nothing. So I am going to find chocolate and amuse myself with nonsense. Haha.
  16. Chocolate is a cure-all, so is eating in general. Haha.
  17. I don't think I can take this wait any longer!!! I hope my campus advisor at least provides some hint ... or maybe I can wait until tomorrow ... but then I would probably sit myself at my computer all day hitting refresh. Haha.
  18. Yeah, it really depends on the country, but from last year's thread it seems that the US sends 1.5-2 times the number of apps like SlyStone said to the respective country's Fulbright commission. So you can think of it has having a 50% chance of making it after the 1st round ...
  19. https://us.fulbrightonline.org/statistics_country_europe.html ^^ Is that what you were looking for? And guys, at least for tonight and tomorrow night we can amuse ourselves with American Idol, if people still watch that ...
  20. They only have data from the past two years. Is that what you're looking for? They have a list with each country research grants/ETAs grant and how many were given out ... they also have a nice PDF of the world with countries visually shown etc.
  21. So that's the terminology - freakage. I like it. Haha. At least you have some work to keep your mind off waiting ... hopefully.
  22. Not only am I trying to avoid thinking about Monday, but I'm trying to avoid thinking about my future in general. My advisor keeps bringing up "well, what happens if you get the Fulbright, the NSF Fellowship, this fellowship, this program, etc" and I'm like NOOOOO. I've been pretty good about not thinking about those fellowships which will be in March/April, but next Monday is like the beginning of a decision that will impact my foreseeable future and I'm not too good at making decisions like that. I just want things to just ... be? AHH.
  23. 13 more days! AHHH.
