  1. I think NDSEG/ASEE needs an intern who can better develop a computer system that logically sends out mass rejection notices.
  2. I haven't seen this video, but it was pretty interesting! If I didn't work on the modeling I do now, I would have done research in either: (1) hurricane formation, (2) plate tectonics, or (3) art history. Widespread, but here I am, learning to be a modeler. Where does all the N go? We most definitely consume most of it b/c of the N in fertilizer, poop it out, and release it back to the environment where it leaches into the rivers/oceans. N is also leached from agriculture. My research looks more at N from atmospheric deposition ... which really isn't a problem here in the West. I know in the East where you have coal plants, you've got more issues with deposition of N. Hmm, yet again, refreshing my email results in an email from my advisor. Lol.
  3. Wow! This stuff is actually really interesting and definitely something the DoD or whichever research arm can utilize. I'm currently doing some hydrologic modeling and working on a larger project that hopes to create a more integrated Earth systems model with biogeochemical cycling (http://www.cereo.wsu.edu/bioearth/). This is definitely not DoD. It is more for a DOE project, which explicitly states modeling as an interest. But too bad the DOE SCGF will probably never come to fruition due to budget cuts. Plus, it's way too late to open up another application cycle ... I was hitting refresh and saw I got a new email. It was my advisor. I told her that her email freaked me out and that I am expecting rejection any moment. She was so positive in her email saying "maybe positive emails come later". Oh, how I wish I was as optimistic as her.
  4. Hmm, that sounds DoD-esqe. I applied under Geosciences ... but I'm pretty sure climate modeling is NOT one of DoD's main research interests/concerns at the moment ...
  5. What discipline did you apply under?
  6. This waiting game is annoying. I want to be rejected so I can move on. Having two monitors helps so I can refresh my email constantly while reading articles, but this is stupid. Just tell me I didn't get it cuz I know I didn't. Sigh.
  7. Very calming. The music reminds me of Coldplay ... or that's what I expected ... I also expected something else like some random video after the calm pictures, but it was all good. Thanks!
  8. Besides the Germany ETA group, is there a Facebook group for the full grantees to Germany? Hmm? Just wondering! Thanks!
  9. This is awesome. Starting at early as possible is the key and chatting with current applicants as well as former applicants are both useful! Very good for being on top of things! What do you plan on proposing (if full grant) and where do you want to go?
  10. Despite all this waiting (y'all will hear soon!), please check to make sure the information on the spreadsheet is correct! https://spreadsheets.google.com/ccc?key=0AriON5PQlVdtdHlKMUhJYlo0bEVXREcxdlJVYUFibnc&hl=en&authkey=CNHpkd4P No need to sign in. If there is an error (there probably is after that last spreadsheet fiasco), email fulbright2011.2012@gmail.com! So when you get your acceptances we can just plug 'em in! Thanks guys!
  11. This is where being on the West Coast is advantageous! I think noon-ish PST or 3 pm EST. Definitely before they leave for work. But either before their lunch time or right after. But then again, who's really productive before or after lunch? I'm also thinking I won't get NDSEG, since I didn't get NSF. But hey, at least I got my Fulbright. Good luck everyone!
  12. Don't forget to email fulbright2011.2012@gmail.com so we can add your info on the spreadsheet! Thanks!
  13. Woo hoo! I'd take the job. I dunno how I'd reply to emails. I'd probably copy and paste replies too. Haha. No, I think I'd do my best to let finalist know. Also, I would sneak around forums looking at what people were saying! Now that I mention it, I wonder if some people at IIE are reading our posts. If so, they must know how frustrated, excited, sad, confused, and so many more emotions we are with them.
  14. Thanks for everyone for providing positive support for this spreadsheet that is ever evolving. Also, thanks to jg33 for helping me out with the spreadsheet and answering emails! Again, please email fulbright2011.2012@gmail.com with the relevant information you'd like to edit and if you are adding information, please include all columns of data (i.e. name, country, address, postmark, notification date, etc) . Also, EVERYONE can VIEW the sheet now: https://spreadsheets...uthkey=CNHpkd4P But not everyone can EDIT it. Bwhahaha. Just kidding. I wish I had found that option a LONG time ago. Thanks guys.
  15. That would be awesome. Email fulbright2011.2012@gmail.com! Thanks!
  16. Thanks. I sent you a message or email or something through this forum. I already have another person helping. When you get a chance, email me and I'll explain our plan of action! Thanks!
  17. I know! But I've gotten some good emails for support for the system we're doing now and I'm getting some help to go through the emails we'll get as more and more finalists receive word. If anything, the main goal is to have country, date of notification, and status. That'll help so much for next year's applicants! Hmm, that's good point! Never thought about that. Oh, I'm sorry to hear that! You did make it to the final round though. Are you looking to grad school? And I will update this ... even though I am reluctant to ...
  18. It makes me sad. It's really hard to go back to previous spreadsheets. Plus I can only go back like within a day. I'm thinking of something drastic. I'll keep you updated.
  19. Hi Erica, thanks. As an engineer, I'm very detail oriented, so it makes sense for me to put this spreadsheet together! Haha. But I have received my notification! I received my acceptance to Germany almost three weeks for a full grant. I'd be doing research at the University of Bonn. How about you? Where did you apply? Have you heard? And yes, the rolling hills of the Palouse is something I will always recognize!
  20. Yeah. There are some major issues with the spreadsheet. Someone dragged down all the dates. Or something. I've saved a previous copy but dont' have time to reconcile all the dates. PLEASE CHECK YOUR INFORMATION ON THE SPREADSHEET AND CHANGE IT IF IT'S WRONG. MOST LIKELY THERE IS SOMETHING WRONG. For example, my notification date is wrong. I don't even remember what I put. Thanks for letting me know. This is a pain.
  21. I just fixed it! Right? Someone had tried to sort ... hmm ... lemme check.
  22. Fixed! I saw someone had tried to change the sorting. I had to revert back to some spreadsheet from 3ish. Sorry. So just re-enter information and check everything! Thanks guys.
  23. No, you don't have to get a mammogram. And I didn't get a mammogram (but I'm a guy ...) lol. Just do what's in your age range.
  24. You could just get a google account. Although you should be able to request with any email. I've already accepted 200+ people. While the majority of the emails are gmail, they don't need to be.
  25. That last part is very true. Most of these prestigious scholarships attract those not in the sciences/engineering. In other words, most of the applicants are not in those fields, which I find interesting and surprising. But then again, looking at my engineering class, I can see why they might or might not be able to function in the real world. Lol. Some have social skills that may not be on par with normal people ... but that is a generalization ...
