  1. first, congrats! As far as your choice goes, based on rankings alone it seems to be the right one. However, it all depends on your specific circumstances: research interests, funding, etc. Assuming you accounted for these in your choice as well, then awesome!
  2. Pretty sure they sent out all their offers. Email Hong, she was super helpful.
  3. As formerfactory said, psychology would be a big leap. What field of engineering are you trying to get into? One path I could see that would work would be to get a masters in biology and then a doctorate in biomedical engineering. I've seen some graduate programs in BME admit biology majors with the right prereqs, on the condition that they take extra courses.
  4. If they are ranked the same, I would recommend Maryland. California is insanely expensive. If it is unfunded, save yourself a ton of money and live in Maryland/DC. Job wise, California is probably better for finding a job. Not entirely sure though, since I am not familiar with jobs in your major. California is just as hot bed for all sorts of engineering jobs.
  5. Were you being considered for an RA? My understanding is the acceptances for fellowships all went out by now, and RA acceptances depend on professors filling out paperwork. Email Hong, she was super helpful and seemed happy to alleviate any anxiety. I received my refund, it arrived by mail.
  6. Friday (3/10). I was accepted as an RA, so I was a pretty late decision. Most were made prior to that, from what Hong told me.
  7. Accepted to Hopkins, and that is where I am going! To those on the wait list, my acceptance letter states that I must respond by March 21 so that they can make offers to those wait listed.
  8. anybody get their hopkins acceptance yet? saw at least 1 person did in the results section, and one other person I know irl did as well.
  9. I am considering the same things, but with an opposite goal. I want to go into academia, so professors that have students who are now professors as well is a big draw for me.
  10. Were you at the biomedical recruitment weekend at Carnegie last week? If so, I was the guy there with the hat lol.
  11. Hey! Is this just for materials or is biomedical allowed too? lol Anyway, I have been accepted at VCU, NC State/UNC, and Carnegie and have interviews at Duke and Hopkins. I have turned down VCU and NC State, as they were my back up schools. I am considering turning down Duke, but will interview first so I can see the school. That leaves a choice between Hopkins and Carnegie, which will be more difficult to make. Will keep you posted!
  12. Hopkins sent out invites to both of their recruitment weekends, Feb 9th and Feb 23rd, already. So JHU is probably done. Not sure about michigan. Best of luck!
  13. I also got an email that an admission decision was available, which I assume they would do if they were accepting or rejecting. Did you apply through the UNC website or NCSU?
  14. In the BME PhD Guidelines available on their website, they list "about 30k" for stipend, plus they cover insurance. I attached the 2 pages that deal with the stipend here. The full file is on their website and has lots of other info that I found helpful. Biomedical Engineering PhD Guidelines.pdf
  15. I am actually going to the interview weekend March 23, as that is what worked best with the professor. Cell mechanics, specifically with Dr. Hoffman.
  16. I don't know duration, percentages, or turnaround time. The professor recruiting me said that Duke only has direct accepts, meaning a professor has to choose you for their lab. The department does not have admits with lab rotations etc that other programs have. If the professor you are interviewing with likes you, he can accept you himself and just needs to fill out the paperwork. That said, you should be able to ask the professor in your interview what the next steps are and if he will be accepting you.
  17. Im not a first year student at Duke, but I have been in contact with Duke professor for a few months while applying to their program and may have some answers from him for you.
  18. Hello, I am interviewing at Hopkins this semester for biomedical engineering and have a few questions to any current students about coursework. I looked at the course requirements, and it looks like you are required to take 36 credits of coursework for your PhD; 18 life sciences and 18 math/engineering. How many courses/credits do you take a semester? This confusion comes from them mentioning that you are supposed to take first year med school curriculum, which adds up to well over 18 credits. Thank you!
  19. Have you reached out to them via email? That is probably the best option. When I contacted professors I sent a short email detailing my research interests and informing them that I applied/would apply to their program and attached my CV. Doing the same for professors at Northwestern might get you some interest.
  20. Professors seem to do Skype interviews when interested in possibly bringing someone in for an in person interview. I had a Skype interview with a professor from every school I have received a recruitment weekend invite from. If the professor seemed interested in you at the conclusion of the interview, you will likely get an invite soon.
  21. I got an invite from JHU as well. Already accepted at Carnegie Mellon. Cell mechanics is my research area.
