Considering how many programs offer this option, and even accept PhD applicants to MA/PhD programs when appropriate, I wouldn't think there would be a stigma attached to it.

No, not funny at all. It makes my blood boil just reading this. I'm sorry you had to be exposed to such blatant misogynistic idiocy. 

I waited until my final four semesters to fulfill my language requirement. I'm sitting in French class surrounded by 18 and 19-year old freshmen, and we're introducing ourselves in small groups using simple phrases. A first-semester freshman hears my broken "Je suis ____, J'ai vingt-neuf ans." and basically yells, "Wait.... You're 29!??!" The next thing out of her mouth (albeit quieter) "can you buy me and my friends alcohol?" 

No honey. I cannot buy you Smirnoff ice.

If it helps/comforts anyone, I'm in at Berkeley, Hopkins, and Brown but will (obviously) be declining two of them after campus visits. I imagine there should be some movement on the waitlists when that happens—and I'll try to figure it out asap. 

It wasn't me who posted on the results page, but yes I did get a call from Princeton! More importantly, thank you guys so much for being so supportive - actually, as someone who had a long winding path to getting here (won't get into details), it means a lot to me to feel welcomed and validated in the wonderful English community, both all of you here and also all the incredible people I've talked to and met in this journey.

Holy shit, I just got a letter saying I'm waitlisted for UCLA. I had totally thought it was a flat rejection at this point--not as good as an acceptance, but I'll take it!

I got into Brown too! This whole situation is absurd. I can't believe it. 

I finally got my first acceptance! UNIVERSITY OF ALBERTA!!! After three rejections from US schools, this really feels like a dream! I'm so relieved!!!

Can you be more specific? Prose from a specific time period/region? Or more about language as a construct? Cognitivism? Lacanian theory? On the surface i would agree it seems like rhet/comp is probably a good fit but I also employ a lot of socio-linguistic analysis in my research and I'm a literature route person. The two certainly overlap. Can I get an assist from a rhet/comp person over here? 

I am here because I am a 2017 applicant. This thread is for people like me. Seriously, if I am in the middle of doing my PhD, and finding myself spending hours and hours on a thread for new applicants, I might just quit the PhD and go get a life.
