  1. It really depends on where you apply for jobs. Having a PhD will never hurt, but may not be necessary if you consider smaller museums as well. I have a friend who is currently the director of a small local museum, and she pretty much fell into that job straight out of undergrad. I'm currently solo curating an exhibit (opening April 1!) for a small state museum. Only a couple of our curators have PhDs, and not in art history/anthro/museum studies. That said, people tend to stay in museum jobs until they die, so positions are hard to come by and there is a lot of competition when they do. Your best bet is a combination of experience, education, and connections. I second talking to your supervisors and see what they think.
  2. Has anyone received an official acceptance email from Riverside?
  3. Nice! What is your field, if you don't mind me asking? Edit: I just noticed your mention of Japanese art yesterday.
  4. Ahhhhh!! Who got an interview for Yale?!? Congratulations! Details?
  5. Berkeley finally sent out rejection emails.
  6. @VAMuseum25 A friend of mine is in the Courtauld program right now, but I can't remember her email, otherwise I'd ask for you. <--- not terribly helpful
  7. Medieval German communities in eastern Central Europe. I did try to indicate that I was flexible and open to refining my scope and whatnot, but that might not have been clear enough in my sop. Lessons for next time I suppose. Seriously, I just wanted to write "here's what I want to do, but I'm well aware that no one in the US is working in this area, so hey! I'm flexible! please let me in." Ugh.
  8. Interview went pretty well maybe? There is interest, but concern over fit with the program (no surprises there, since my focus is SUPER RAD but also super obscure), so we talked about my openness to modifying my area of focus. We shall see!
  9. @arboreal05 Ad coms might not be sadists, but we sure as hell are masochists. Meanwhile, I have a phone interview for the MA program at UC Riverside today at 2. I'm trying to guess what questions they will ask so I can write up a cheat sheet to help me avoid rambling.
  10. Yeah, I saw the post on the results list too, so now I'm just waiting for my rejection email. Wommmmmp.
  11. Maybe they interview when there are a lot of applicants with the same POI or area of focus?
  12. How is everyone doing this fine day? I am distracting myself from the anxiety with crafts. Yesterday I built a snowman, and today I am building a tripod for a daguerreotype camera. Crafts!
  13. No but I must find that one! My favorite so far is the one set to Biggie. Punching Nazis: an American tradition since 1941.
  14. Watching videos of Richard Spencer getting decked set to music has been a fantastic distraction for me over the weekend!
