  1. My PoI was one of my LoR's PhD advisors, so hopefully that will help.
  2. Probably not. The market has the people who graduated during your year, plus people who graduated the year before, plus people who re-enter, etc.
  3. Yeah, when I started the process, I said I'd be pretty happy if I only got into Wisconsin and Minnesota. I've gotten into both. Still waiting to hear from Princeton, Hopkins, Indiana, and Harvard. Going to Princeton would be a dream come true, albeit one that probably won't happen. Rejected from Columbia, Yale, and (presumably) Chicago, none of which were particularly good fits. My PoI at Columbia focused most on early modern laboratories, whereas my research is early modern Jesuit science as well as science and religion.
  4. Accepted to HoS at Wisconsin. Informal email with details to follow next week some time.
  5. The way I've dealt with it is just assuming that my applications have already been thrown out.
  6. Congratulations! I applied too, but haven't heard back. Not a great fit, personally, but probably better than Yale. Oh well. Columbia's HoS is part of its History department. They're not separate.
  7. Heard back from Yale's HoS department, rejected. Not really a surprise, I stretched my interests to make myself look like a fit. Interviewing with Hopkins HoS on 2/13.
  8. My information (admittedly from my professors) indicates that the GRE is unimportant beyond a quick glance to determine whether or not you meet the minimum requirements.
  9. History of Science here. Primary interests involve the Jesuit Order and its contribution to science, as well as science and religion in the Early Modern Period more generally. Applied to Chicago, Princeton, Yale, Harvard (AM), Wisconsin, Minnesota, Hopkins, Indiana, and Columbia. Heard from PoI at Hopkins; reading my application "with interest," and accepted to Minnesota. Probably getting rejected from Chicago (not a good fit).
