    Awesome! Follow up questions...

    When did you apply?

Any stats you feel comfortable sharing?

Submitted application on 11/30/2017 to meet the Dec 1st priority deadline.

Stats: GPA 3.4 from UC Berkeley; majored in Ethnic Studies and double minored in Education and Spanish literature

Experience: several internships in SW field and volunteer work, two and a half years of full-time case management work with at-risk populations and program evaluation in two different settings (an npo and higher ed institution)

LORs: one from former manager, one from colleague with an MSW and another from the director of a program associated with the work I did at an NPO.

The uncertainty is wild lol. What an emotional rollercoaster this is

    HIIIII

I got my admissions result today an hour ago, I got in! It's funny because it happened just as I was leaving the juvenile detention center where I occasionally do outreach to regarding the college I work for. I really love doing that work because the kids are so excited to start over and their eyes light up at the idea of getting paid to be in school full time; it's a fresh start and they ask all kinds of questions. I thought, "Wow, I hope I can match that energy when if I get good news from Columbia," and then my heart stopped on my way to the car when I got the decision email. AHHHHHHHHHH what a wild ride. Good luck everyone!!!!

  3. Hi folxs, second year applicant here. I applied to UC Berkeley's MSW program last year and was accepted off the wait list to their MAP program which only accepts about 20 students annually. Unfortunately because of zero funding and other life happenings I declined attending. Hoping to hear back from Columbia soon but no word yet!

Did anyone apply to the scholarships they emailed out?

Wishing you both the best of luck with the waitlist! I hear a lot about people getting off and offered admissions? I know the MAP concentration is small but I'm sure some will not go if they get better funding elsewhere. I'm keeping faith and hope alive?

Holy sh*t, I got accepted too! CMH concentration. Got the email at 3pm PST. Is anyone else going to the meet&greet in April?

wokebrowngirl - I hear good things about being Waitlisted at this point. It's a big deal to make the cut at all and people definitely drop their acceptance slots. I hope I see you on campus!

Y'all are the sweetest! ? I hope we can make it out of the Waitlist! If any of y'all need advice or help with housing let me know. Same goes for any of any that are local and students of color that want to be involved with campus orgs- my friend in S.O.U.R.C.E has mentioned she'd really like to get recently admitted students involved early.

Wokebrowngirl, I already sent in my reply to stay on the waitlist and I think you should too!  Even if you change your mind at least you are on the list.  I just called to see how they will process it.  I know it is by concentration by I want to know how else they choose?  Just first come first serve on who said to be on the waitlist or are we already ranked somehow.

But I also applied to SJSU and CSUMB which are part-time programs and probably more suited for my life but still.... I love Berkeley!  (went there for undergrad).  I kinda like to choose the most crazy options in life.  For instance, I drive 2 hours each way to work because I wanted to work at my old community college! Haha!  But its worth it in the end!

Come on, Workbrowngirl!  Get on dat waitlist!  (What others schools did you apply to? Maybe we'll end up two woke brown girls in the same program in the end! haha)

Cal was the only school I applied to because of the MAP concentration and because I'm married to a current PhD student at Cal. I also went to Cal for undergrad and I have mixed feelings along with other pressing issues I have to weigh out. I'll throw myself on the mercy of the waitlist BUT we'll see. I have nothing to loose. My good friend  that's in her second year is close to lots of the faculty though so hopefully she can also help me with this process and give better insight. Hope we both make it in!

Also not sure how the process is but you should reply that your interested on staying on waitlist. I think there is a ranking order. Fingers crossed ?. I sooo much hope if I'm not admitted, I would at least be on the waitlist.

There is.  The waitlist is not ranked though, it's by group concentration. The deadline to submit my interest in staying on the waitlist in in April. I am not sure what I would like to do and have to think things over so yah. Meltoid, are you going to stay on the waitlist?

    Congrats Lunabathory!

They said emails should be going out between the 13th and the 17th. Told me I may get a phone call or email given the concentration I applied to.

Oh snap! A call? Anxiety rising....  :3 Thanks for the update! I'll be sure to pick up 510 area code numbers today.

It feels soo good too know I'm not the only one being obsessive. I have even went as far as calling the dept a few times lol. I promised myself not to log into the application site until I get an email because I was checking that non stop? So instead, I just come here to the forums and look for updates from u guys. Somehow after reading all the comments I feel more at ease. Thank you guys for sharing your experience. I hope we all hear soon ?with great news. I feel like I can't schedule a thing this week until I know my results??‍♀️

Did they say anything when you called?

Thank you everyone on this thread for updating us with your status. It's helped me ease my mind too. Here's to hoping we get to spend this weekend celebrating!

Right?! They're the only school that gave me an actual date range when I would hear so I'm hoping it's soon because I'm waiting on pins and needles!

THE WAIT IS UNBEARABLE. I know we got the email with the date range but on their admissions website they added in that they would give notifications out by the 15th. I obsessively check here, the grad results anon page and my email every couple of hours. :(

I also applied to Management and Planning... So maybe we will be classmates!

That's super cool! When I was at the on campus info session, students from the MAP concentrations said it was one of the smallest of the MSW concentrations and pretty close knit because of that.

What actually makes the wait worse it that the title IV-E applicants for UCB are suppose to receive phone calls of acceptances. I hear an email is a denial or waitlist?

Not many people apply to IV-E though, from what I've heard. The commitment is a really long one to make. Best of luck!!!!

I think the interview went okay, it could have went better but I was soo nervous. All the questions were soo straightforward. The caffeine beforehand didn't give me a boost like I thought it had me jittery lol

Oh no! Well....based off my creeping and searching around the websites looks like last year they sent out informal "you got in" emails to people that were also offered a fellowship the Friday before the official decision week. Your decision might be in sooner than you think! As for the official decision week; looks like they send a mix of acceptances, rejections and waitlists spread over days. :| The wait thus far has been agonizing.

Wow Congrats ? on UCLA! It sucks that it's sooo expensive but the IV-E stipend helps. I'm still waiting to here back from Cal. I interviewed mid February and the last interviews were today so I'm hoping to hear soon.

Congratulations Marlene! MSW Bound, how did your interview go?

I also did undergrad at Cal! Are you a student parent too? Berkeley is definitely my first choice but some life events have suddenly made UCLA a close second. There's a possibility we might have to relocate to LA and UCLA is the only school I applied to in SoCal. :(

I'm not a student parent; just married and found family housing to be better for us financially than the current market rate around the East Bay. My partner is a PhD student and they really do give a miserable stipend for what it costs to live out here. Are you currently living in the East Bay? I wish I had applied to UCLA, I might also have to relocate as well due to family issues. If Cal doesn't work out, I'll probably move back home, work and apply to UCLA for the next year. But Cal's MSW program has gotten so darn good compared to past years. :( I feel you. :(

I have! I'll probably apply to the dual program if I go to Berkeley. And I remember them having some really good faculty.

I wont hear back from Gothenburg until March 24th so I guess the Berkeley timeline isn't too disappointing.

    What's your first choice?

Cal is my first choice. I'm an alumni and my partner is a current graduate student there too; we live in the university housing and all so it's pretty convenient. My professional network is out here and since I went for undergrad, I know how I'd like to use my electives to collaborate with professors from other departments to strengthen my work experience. But I'm honestly not sure if they admit many undergraduate alumni. When I attended their info sessions a lot of people had gone to undergrad elsewhere, including people I'm close to that are currently in the program. We'll see I guess.

I'm not sure if Berkeley is my first choice. It might depend on how financial aid compares between Berkeley, Columbia and NYU, but honestly I think the University of Gothenburg may be my first choice since I'm planning on focusing on international sexual wellness and sexual violence prevention.

Definitely! I've heard great things about financial aid through friends that are currently in the program but I'd also be paying in-state tuition which for me beats all other private university options. But even for out of state students, they really do mean it when they say that there's higher chances for more fellowships during year two. They've also been expanding their summer abroad opportunities.

Also, not sure if you've looked into their MSW+MPH program (which you can apply to during the first year of the program if you didn't apply for the dual initially) but there are one of two different professors that focus on international sexual wellness and sexual violence topics.

When do you hear back from Gothenburg?
