  1. There are so many fully funded programs out there!!! I was always advised not to go into debt for my MFA (because essentially its a useless degree) but its also really important to be in the right program for you. My first round of applications, I picked a school based on location and funding, and I ended up leaving after a year, because the social climate was not condusive to my practice. I realized that I did not actually do that much research about MFA programs, before jumping into applications, and there were so many components I did not consider. Now I'm more interested in finding a program that is a better fit for me and my goals, and happens to be affordable. Purchase is known for its pedagogical program, but if you are not interested in teaching that may not be the right fit for you. But spending 75K on an MFA may also not be part of your goals! Its such a tough decision!!! You could always do a program for a year, and switch if you don't like it, or apply again next year! Good luck!!
  2. UM my interview went terribly lmao All of the interview questions were really strange to me, like "how do you feel about critiques, because we have a lot of them here", like I'm pretty sure if I'm going for my MFA I'm expecting to have critiques all the time? not sure why anyone would answer "oh, i hate critiques". They also asked like what my other skills were that weren't art related, and I was like "organizing?" lmao and then it turns out that they actually just wanted to know like what I did besides painting. They asked very little about my work, besides what do I find most exciting about it, they asked how I felt about working collaboratively (another weird question), they asked why I wanted to go to purchase, obviously, they asked about my influences, im trying to think what else they asked. they said they ask everyone the same questions, it was very quick, 30 mins, and they were like we actually have to go, in the middle of me asking them a question. Overall I dont feel great about it, hope this helps with yours tho, good luck!!
  3. People who are waitlisted are totally callled all the time!!! thats way better than a rejection!!
  4. Hey when is your interview with purchase?! Mine is tomorrow. I was accepted to UConn March 2, and I had an interview on Feb 13, but for painting, maybe the printmaking dept. is different?
  5. I got the same!!!! and I was so confused.. im assuming that they need people for that program. I expressed an interest in teaching, so I was thinking that was why, did you also?
  6. Hi guys, I'm new to the party. I have an interview with SUNY Purchase tomorrow, and IM FREAKING OUT. I had one interview with UCONN a week or so ago that went well, but I feel like it was way more casual and laid back than I expect purchase to be. Does anyone know what they typically ask at the interview? And what they are looking for that is different from your application? It seems so unnecessary and repetitive to have interviews I feel.
