I'm also positive they won't share it with anyone.
I've heard of scholarships and grants that at the end give a rank to all applicants, which would be really helpful in deciding whether to apply again or wait it out. Unfortunately, I think the Fulbright is too large and complex to send out a ranking of even just the alternates since there are so many variables to consider.
Yeah that all makes sense. Damn shame

Has any alternate been able to find out their position on the alternate list? They said there isn't one but tbh I don't believe that

It's crazy how anxious I was to hear back and now that I heard back and am sitting in Alternate purgatory I just want to go back to the anticipation of having not heard yet! Oh how the grass is always greener...

Hmm. That's unusual! What I'm trying to understand, though, is if, say, because Malaysia took 100 ETAs last year that an alternate to Malaysia would have a higher probability of being pulled up (because of a higher likelihood that a large number of that 100 will decline) than an alternate from a country that accepts proportionally fewer people? Or do alternates for all countries go on a comprehensive list allowing funding freed up from a Malaysia ETA's declination to go to an alternate who applied to a different country? Am I making sense here?

To your guys' knowledge, are there country-specific alternate lists? Like if an ETA from South Korea withdraws there opens a spot for an ETA in South Korea? Or is it more nebulous than that?

Feeling really down about this Alternate status. My professors and the Fulbright advisor at my school have been encouraging and just angels following this bad news, but it's still rough.
I applied for 10 things this year (7 grad schools, Fulbright, Jet, and Tapif). I've been rejected from 8, alternate at 1, and waiting to hear back from the last (and I don't even WANT it at this point!).
Life goes on, but man, this is a bitter pill to swallow!

Feeling very similarly! My advisor at my school and friend who's currently on her Fulbright in Bosnia both said they thought I was an especially strong candidate. Keep in mind (something I'm trying to tell myself) is that they may just be looking for different profiles of people. I know I don't want to be a teacher professionally which may have worked against me. My job search has resulted in only rejections as well, and not knowing what to do after graduation (in a month) is a pretty startling feeling, but lots of people go through it.

Also, was wondering if anyone who has been awarded is slated to start January 2018? Obviously this is forward-thinking, but if things go well I wouldn't start until then; curious if anyone has grand plans or great ideas for how to spend a brief fall term post-grad and pre-FB

Had a string of 3 fellowship rejections this week and going back to school from spring break having yet to start my damn thesis; could really use a pick-me-up! Come on Malaysia... I could use some motivation haha

First time posting here -- ETA semi-finalist to Malaysia. Getting pretty salty over here that Asia seems to come out last! Last few years came out mid/late April... getting angsty reading these posts and seeing so much success haha
