  1. Hello,

I am an SLP assistant in TX. When I applied it was not under TDLR yet but I am assuming the process is the same. For the observation hours, the school I went to did not offer the observation classes so I had to have a form signed by the director of the program. I think it was called a difficiency plan. Anyways, this was to prove that I couldn't get them through a class. Then I looked for a clinic that would allow me to come in and do my 25 direct and 25 indirect observation hours. This was not a paid position. They assigned me to an SLP and It took me three weeks to get all my hours done. The supervisor had to first sign paperwork and submit it. I think they get an email back approving it.....not sure. After you do all 50 hours, they fill out paper work that I believe you submit as a part of your application. I don't remember everything about the application but I can try and answer any other questions you have. Oh and when I was looking for an SLP to observe me I called clinics and asked to speak to the clinic director or manager and told them I was applying for my assistants license and wanted to know if they would allow me to do my observation hours with them. I got a lot of clinics saying no and then some clinics saying yes but they wanted me to sign a 3-5 year contract saying I was going to work there. Which I did not. I think they did this bc they put time into "training" you and then want something in return.  The clinic that let me do hours with them did hire me after I got my license, which was fortunate. Anyways, hopefully this helps. It can definitely be a confusing process.

Hi! I summited my application back in December. The admission advisor told me my application went through back in early April. I was invited to interview on June 7th. The interview went well, there were about 9 people that attended. I emailed the advisor 3 weeks ago (2 weeks after the interview). She told me that my application was still under reviewed. Then yesterday, she called me and told me that the Austin campus was full and that the admission committee thought I would be a good fit for the Dallas campus. However, they are still not sure if the Dallas campus will open next month. I told her to withdraw my application since I had already been accepted to Baylor and Emerson. Did anyone have a similar experience?

Wow, that's interesting. i'm glad that you have other options. Which school are you going to choose?

It wasn't too bad and they really make you feel comfortable. I did the online interview so I am not sure if it's different, but it started with an orientation and then we were separated to groups. I was in a group with a few other students. The questions were about ourselves, how we were as students, professionalism and clinical questions. There were a couple situational questions as well. We had a time limit of 45 minutes I believe so we didn't get through all the questions.

I just recieved an acceptance email today!

    Congratulations on your acceptance!!!!

And anyone still waiting for interview/decision. It's not over until you are officially notified. I know of at least one person who was accepted the Friday before classes started on the following Monday (because someone deferred until fall). I know waiting and not having answers is hard, but they do look at everything and try to give everyone a chance to get applications in when they are making decisions. They dont just fill the positions as quickly as possible.

Its an awesome program and I feel fortunate to be in it. I wish all of the best of luck.

Let me know if I can answer any questions. I am very busy with studies, but I do check this thread.

Thanks for this. I am waiting to hear back and hopefully get a chance to interview.

Yeah in the letter I received they make you wait six months before you can apply again and you have to submit a letter of what you have improved. I believe you can also only apply twice to the school.

Dang. I guess if they don't want you there the 2nd time they don't want you at all.  Im still waiting.... I'm ready to just know.  Im pretty doubtful now.

Yeah, the thing was UCF doesn't require it for their bachelor's degree at all and instead has Hearing Disorder's Across the Lifespan and then obviously Audiology, which to tell you the truth the class was basically both of those two classes combined. No, I am not. It was kind of like a last hope effort as well and I didn't apply to any schools, because I applied Fall 2017/Spring 2018 and I guess USAHS wasn't accepting student's from Florida when I originally applied.

Well.....if I'm not accepted....which it's looking that way bc I'm still waiting.  I was told I can't reapply til fall 2020. I guess they want you to wait a year.

Yeah, so literally the day after I completed the class, they sent me an email today of denial. Like I kind of wished if they were going to deny me anyways that they should have then instead of making me wait one whole semester taking a class, which I paid $500 for because I highly doubt one class that I got a good grade in determined their decision.

Oh dang! I'm sorry. I've received plenty of those and they suck every time. As for your class, Aural Rehab, most schools are going to require it but it's pretty shady they pushed for you to take it with them. Are you still waiting on other schools? This school is my last hope for this application cycle. :(

I submitted the end of December & heard back a WEEK before the interview. I applied for the Fall 2019 cohort so I would imagine there will be a wait before you hear back. It was pretty last minute but once I had the interview I was notified of my acceptance via email within like 5 days I think it was. let me know if you have any other questions!

I also applied for fall 2019....but my application wasn't forwarded til mid march. I'm still waiting......I wonder how much longer if they have already filled spots....
