    My overall GPA was around a 3.8, but my last 60 credits brought me to a 3.92 (on the U of A scale -- for ORPAS, it was a 3.89). I hope that helps!

    Just got an offer of admission to the U of A! I am SUPER relieved after hearing other people get in nearly a month ago. I will definitely be accepting!

    Those numbers are higher than I'd imagined, actually. I knew it was expensive, but that's a lot! This is a pretty broad question, but does anyone know if students are usually eligible for scholarships from the faculty? I know it depends on each person, but are there lots of scholarship that SLP grad programs tend to give out?

    If you don't mind me asking, what do you think made the difference for you the third time you applied? I'm just trying to create a plan for myself if I don't get in.

    Also, I just received an email saying I'm waitlisted at Dal. At least it's not a rejection I guess!

    To the people who have made it into Dal: out of curiosity, did you say that you wanted to do a thesis when you applied? And would you mind sharing your stats with us? Thanks everyone for being so supportive! Even though this thread gives me a lot of anxiety about others getting in, it's also very comforting... I guess I have a love/hate relationship with it. Haha

    I believe they do. In the application process, they ask for transcripts from multiple schools (if applicable), and they also ask for English translations of transcripts in case people went on an exchange. You can always ask the schools that you’ll be applying to in particular though! I know a couple people who used their exchanges as a way to support their application though - they are great learning experiences that can show you the significance of language if you’re in a country that doesn’t speak your native tongue.

    It would be interesting to know how many acceptances the U of A sends out in their first wave. It's super nerve-wracking not knowing! Ha ha Congrats to everyone who got in so far! I am very excited for you!

    Just finished submitting all of my applications! Now is the worst part... the waiting. After looking over past years' threads, it seems to me that schools are fairly inconsistent when it comes to the time it takes them to make a decision. I almost just wish they told us we'd know on a specific date!

    I agree, @SLPdreamer1996! I am also debating whether I should include my scholarships in my resume. Since there's only so much space, I'm seriously considering not including that information, but it's also hard to do that because I don't want to leave anything that could be important out! I wish that there was a simple step-by-step "here's how you get in" guide. Ha ha

    Hi everyone! I know there's a 2018 SLP thread that's supposed to be for Canadians already, but it was really convoluted with posts from other countries, so I thought I would make a thread that's explicitly Canadian so that we don't have to worry about sifting through everyone's posts to find what's relevant for us! Applications open up really soon and I'm sure we're all super nervous! It's really nice to have this community to be able to talk about everything SLP-related! Happy applying, friends! For myself, this is my first time applying. I'm thinking of only applying to the University of Alberta and Dalhousie, though UBC would definitely be at the top of my list if I had the prerequisites. I'm sitting at a GPA of 3.92 (3.89 for ORPAS), with a prereq GPA of 3.84. It's not perfect, but I'm hoping it'll be enough! I also have a couple years worth of heavy research experience for a developmental psycholinguist. In the other 2018 SLP thread I had mentioned that I don't have a lot of related experience to SLPs, but I'm happy to say that since posting there I've put in over 50 hours (so far) in a couple different speech clinics, working with a variety of age groups. It's been really cool!

    It looks like there's a lot of mix in this forum between Canadian and USA applications. Since they're so different, would it be helpful if those of us in Canada started a different thread? I don't want to take away from this one, but I feel it would be more straightforward for us.

    Oh wow! I hadn't seen that conversion chart before! Thanks so much for your help! It's interesting how different schools have different GPAs for the same marks. I'm assuming it's a way to balance things, but it still seems a little peculiar. I have decided that I am only going to be applying to the U of A and Dalhousie this year (ORPAS is so expensive!) so I suppose the ORPAS sGPA isn't so significant to consider for me. Still, for anyone wondering it's a 3.89. I know it's nice to look back on past years to see what GPAs are like, so I may as well share. lol I agree that personal statements and letters are so nerve-racking! It's strange to write something about yourself after writing academically for so long.

    I figure I might as well post my stats as well, but I'm not sure how the subGPA is calculated. If anyone has any insight please let me know! My last 60 credits have brought me to a GPA of 3.92, but my prerequisites are only at a 3.84. I'm wondering if I should retake one of them, since retaking a course I got a B+ in would probably bring my prereq GPA to a 3.94. But I guess I'll see. I'm also worried about volunteer hours. I have lots of research experience doing research with a developmental psycholinguist (did my thesis and lots of volunteering, and now have a research assistant job), and have volunteered in various settings with individuals who have disabilities, but don't have a lot of experience in an SLP clinic itself.     Great idea, @_reeldeel. I told myself I didn't want to look at this site because it would make me nervous about my own application, but it's just so hard not to! Ha ha. May I ask where you're applying to? Your application sounds fierce! I honestly think you're on the right track!
