Found this great article. https://www.chronicle.com/blogs/arts/mid-life-art-students-inspiring-but-challenging-to-teach/29412 With people living longer and longer I am surprised that this topic has not been addressed far more.
  2. I like to congratulate all of you who have gotten acceptance notices, how wonderful. I wish you much success. To those who are still waiting, hang in there. Read up on the Universities you are waiting for to be ready for the interview. Waiting is not easy and you are not alone.
  3. I am trilled for all of you who have received an interview and those who are accepted. Hugs to you who have been rejected. Let's hope that the next one is an acceptance. They really should not call it rejection since the changes are pretty low do to so many applicants. Has anyone looked into universities you have not applied to and are still accepting applications? What ever you do do not give up!
  4. Most all the 3 years schools allow you to teach. If teaching is something you consider that is worth its money in gold. I have read this forum for several years and some mentioned that the 2 year programs go by fast. It took them almost a year to get into the swing of things. Not having to worry about paying student loans will free up your time to be creative. If you are young and do not have other obligation and they give you teaching experience go for the 3 year program. Student loan debt can bring down the best of us, best to be avoided.
  5. Congratulation best of luck to you.
  6. Since we are all waiting, where are the best places to find "Call for artist" for local galleries?
  7. Herold, domain names don't cost that much. Check with go daddy .com they have often sales for 0.99 a year and then about $14 for every additional year.
  8. Let's hope that means you are in the running and no news is good news for now. Best of luck
  9. Would like to see this list growing. I keep a wish list on Amazon to keep track of titles I like to read
  10. Art Book Recommendations by Ted Seth Jacobs Drawing with an Open Mind Drawing What the Eye Sees Light for the Artist (Dover Art Instruction) Harold Speed Oil Painting Techniques and Materials (Dover Art Instruction) Ryerson Margery A. The Art Spirit by Brassaï, Jane Marie Todd Conversations with Picasso by Harry Holtzman, Martin S. James The New Art--the New Life: The Collected Writings Of Piet Mondrian
  11. Don't worry when I went to the open house, the professors made a point that they paintings can be unstretched. They understand the logistic of traveling with large art. Best of luck
  12. I am much the same. I applied last year and this is my second round. I am keeping myself busy with painting and organizing my online materials. I even bought a new domain and will start working on my fine art website. I have trouble concentrating on reading so which is my favored escape. Might have to break out a bottle of wine or visit lots of galleries and get my wine and networking that way lol. Being around likeminded people should help.
  13. You are right, I guess I am starting to see things. Sorry about the false alarm. Better get of the coffee and switch to tea.
  14. Same here, I really liked the presidents of Northwestern outlook to the arts. I agree it is nice that they don't let students wait to hear their decision. All the best for the grads who will be accepted. Rutgers is posting decisions online.
  15. What is everyone doing as they are waiting? I just signed myself up for an 8 week workshop and ordered 2 new art books I always wanted to read.
  16. Congratulation best of luck.
  17. I would check how the professors dress. I remember going to the Mathematic department at Rowan and one of the student and his father came all decked out in fancy suits. The department head commented that he felt underdressed. If you do wear jeans, perhaps a black one. Clean but not to over pretentious. Get a fresh haircut even if you wear your hair long just a trim around the ends helps. Polish your shoes. Go easy on the parfume and cologne. What ever you do do not look like you just stepped out of the studio splattered in paint.
  18. Congratulation Peach Gray and best of luck.
  19. Thesis Topic? Now that we have some time to think, what have you done to come up with Thesis Topics? Are you working on fine tuning just one or come up with several concepts and only fine tune the idea ones your program ok them?
  20. Yes I have applied to Delaware. I often asked the questions to current graduate students how they fund their education. Either the University provided them with full funding or they received about 1/3 funding. To my surprise all the ones still left with a massive amount of loans told me they do not worry about the loans. Grad school has told them all will be well after they graduate. I wish them well and hope that will be the case. I am amazed by the cost/ROI ratio. Student loan payment can be the very reason you can't support yourself with art after finishing your MFA.
  21. I visited the site and I agree that the cost is pretty fair. I have build website in the past but like to move away from having to do that. I just can't keep up and it keeps me away from creating my work. Reclaim Hosting seem to be just a hosting site where you park you website am I correct?
  22. Who have you used to build your portfolio website? What do you like about them? How user-friendly is yours? Cost? Do you own your domain name? SmugMug. Squarespace. Portfoliobox. Cargo. Format. Carbonmade. Moonfruit. Dribbble. other
  23. Thank you, that is what I did for this year. I did take the extra time to visit the National Portfolio review in NY and did the online one as well. That helped me fine tune my application and get very useful feedback. Furthermore, I did talk to Universities I had not researched. I was honest and told them I did not know much about their programs and they in return gave me a quick idea what they are about and what kind of student they look for. I am always creating new work. I need to do better on Instagram and create another website dedicated to my painting work.
