As an international too, I found it really helpful to email a couple past students from the programmes I applied to; I got some very detailed responses and it's lovely how willing artists are to help each other. They gave me very helpful insights into their experiences, the pros/ cons/ struggles of the programme and the sort of artist they think it bests suits (some even took the time to look at my website). This really helped me envision how I would find being on the MFA.

Hope that helps and good luck deciding :-D

I eventually decided to go with RCA xD, since I like the location more. I didn’t email any of the alumnus in the same program yet, planning to find one to ask about the overall atmosphere at school and such. Thanks for your advices!

Two acceptances (one on another field), and waiting to hear results from two more programs. Happy about choices, and debating possibilities. Hard to decide!

    Wow! Which field?

Congrats on being accepted to RCA and Boston U! Knew you would do great interviewing!

Thank you xDD! And Pratt as well actually lol, so far only Parsons haven’t respond to me.

How’s everything going for you? I’ve seen you’ve received two rejections so far, sorry to hear that :(, I think it is their lost to not accept such a supportive and cheering student..

Snap! accepted the offer and all  :-) Are you planning to go?

Can't wait to study under Josephine; past students have nothing but wonderful things to say about her and I loved our interview.

Can't beat a great programme at a great price either! ?

I'm tempting xD, bc I also got accepted to RCA painting.
I know not much about these two programs, I can't fly there to have first hand experience, and I have limited resources online ?

I interviewed and haven't heard back. I am getting pretty worried! If anyone has heard please let us know.

I've been accepted to their painting program in March 12, hope the information helps ;D

One of them felt attacked about his work very personally. The other was in tears afterwards. So that tells you right there how krvers RCA interview experience was not unusual at all.

DuDE WhAt, I'm about to take their interview in Feb 18, I was quite confidence but now I don't know anything anymore xDDDDD''. Did they say any details of how the faculties questioned their works or their personality?

And may I know which program they interviewed for?

If other people interviewed at RCA, and I personally know of two who did....

May I know how was the interviews went for them? I'm curious now because krvers said they can be arrogant... ?
I'm an international student so I do feel anxious about my ability to express in English.

One of my professors didn't reply for about 20 days, so I changed him to another professor, maybe you can do the same. Remember to tell the professor and the school though :)

Found out yesterday night that I have an interview with Cornell for the 15th of February

    Congrats on the interview!

I see you had an interview with RCA painting, may I ask which questions did they ask during the interview?

Accepted to SVA for mfa fine arts. Also got excellent funding for SAIC and possibly more funding to come.

Downside is SAIC wants an answer by Mar 15th but it looks very likely Im heading to SAIC XD

congratulations!! They are both nice schools, I applied them as well, but I haven't receive any messages yet.

May I ask how did SVA and SAIC contacted you? If it was through email, is it the same email address that they send random program ads?

  11. I applied to four schools for drawing and painting this year and so far my email has been silence from the programs I've applied.

I saw a few people got interviews from SAIC painting a month ago, but I got non:blink:. Does the date I submitted my application matters regarding early or late I receive the result? I submitted my application near the deadline, fortunately in time.

For people who received direct emails from school, do they send the email through the same account that they use to send ads or a different account? I'm wondering whether or not I blocked their ads or not:unsure:, and I certainly don't want to block any information regarding my application, lol.

I would talk only about the path that has led you to your current interests. If you do so, it'll give the adcom a sense that you know what you're getting yourself into and have a compelling reason for pursuing this particular MFA program.

sorry for the late reply and thank you for the answer!! I tried your method, and the other user's, who's comment appears to be deleted... anyway it is quite right, the adcoms are not here to know what every little thing you do in your life, they just want to know why are you applying to the program anyway.

  13. I studied as a Visual Art student during my undergrad, and focused mostly on fine arts, but now I'd like to attend for MFA in illustration, which is not so related in fine arts. Do I talk about it when I mention my undergrad major, or should I add some sentences briefly to inform the viewers why I changed interests? and is it ok to say I'm interested in both and want to give up on neither?

  14. Anyone here applied to SVA MFA illustration? I really like the courses they offer, but there is ridiculously little information I can get from the internet, and all the reviews about this school are not as nice as I expect-- since they have a relatively expensive tuition I expected more.

SVA was my first choice but now I'm not sure. Then I considered Syracuse, but little information as well... Do I cold mail to the students that's in these schools?

I'm mainly looking for illustration programs near NY but Fine Art programs that includes drawing and painting are good as well if I end up with no illustration programs to choose. Usually I include Psychological concepts in my drawings, and do not want to only draw in traditional way, so traditional school are off limits. I got a bachelor degree in Visual Art, and I'd like to be more professional in whatever I'm working on.

  15. Hello every body! Newbie here,

I'm freshly graduated from university which my major is Visual Art, the long of learning more then I have taught has been bothering me for approximately 2 years. Plus Visual Art is not technically a specific enough category to stop at in my career, so I figured I'd like to apply to the illustration graduate programs on fall 2018. But here comes the question, I don't have any information for illustration programs besides the school websites and other internet stuff, I don't know what kind of portfolio to submit, I have oil/ acrylic/ digital painting/ watercolor/ charcoal, etc, but which kind of stuff I'd want to be in my portfolio in order to proof my skills?. What is the ratio of still life and actual illustration? My mind is full of questions that needed to be answered.

So anyone is on the same boat or have been through all these can give me some advices/ struggle with me ?

    by the way, the schools I've came up so far are SVA/Pratt/Parson, is there any other great illustration programs around or inside NYC?, I've been heard a little about the illustration as visual essay graduate program in SVA. Do they actually that good? I wish I could go and check it out myself, but I live on the other side of the earth which is kind of inconvenient ; ;
