  1. First acceptance to the NYU M.A. program!!! After so many rejections I was prepping for the worst. I'm still waiting on Rutgers to tell me yes/no before I find out if I have a PhD option, so I will also be considering the risk of the financial M.A. plunge. I might honestly just do it, though. I'm really happy with myself for having gotten something for my effort!!
  2. Where are you seeing NYU Masters results? When I applied I selected that I wanted to be considered for the masters if rejected from the PhD program; if the Masters results are out, I suppose that means an implied rejection from both? Edit: I see on the results page where people have been listing acceptances to NYU's MA now. That's a shame. I just wish they would actually sent out rejections to one or both of them, if I'm/we're rejected.
  3. So, I was an idiot and did not set up my Duke Onelink account in order to view the application portal... I'm pretty sure I have not been invited to interview, unless for some reason that invitation would have been sent out through the portal that I had not set up at the time when they were sending them out. Can anyone confirm to me that interviews would have been sent out by email directly back when they were first sent? Also, more generally, I still don't have a rejection from Duke in the portal. Is this normal? Preeeetty sure I'm rejected, but since I messed up I'm hoping y'all can set me straight on some of this.
  4. What exactly are you looking for? Sorry if I'm being dense.
  5. Hey congrats!! I'm an undergrad here and, though I'm in Lit & Lang, the Rhetoric faculty members seem really exceptional!
  6. Yes, it does. Thank you! I applied to the NSSR Liberal Studies Program, and that appears to be a much more reliable option, financially. That's only a relevant consideration if I'm accepted, of course.
  7. It's not about ease for Nietzsche, though, is it? Something something fighting the (idiosyncratically determined) good fight..
  8. My opinion is that if we wanted the option of a more formulaic path to "success", or at least maturity in our field of skills, we would have done business, or engineering. It's like we've kind consigned ourselves to a reliance on determination or obstinacy as a primary career skill. Oh yeah, these are my first posts too! Hello everyone!
  9. You know, it's funny how this whole process has worked out, and what has shaped my choice of school. The biggest constraint ended up being my incredible ability to forget to sign up for the GRE lit subject test in time... I was just thinking about how it wouldn't make sense for me to give up on this, even if the cycle as a whole ends up a failure. If I actually want this as badly as I think and have thought that I do, then it will eventually happen with time and effort. And then in the meantime, the world is a beautiful place and I can explore my potential someplace else.
  10. That I wasn't afforded an immediate acceptance definitely also paints a picture of how "badly" I've been rejected. Cool. And now with Northwestern's rejection, that's 2 down out of 8! I mostly am just okay with knowing the decisions at this point so I can get on with my life.
  11. It says that my application has been forwarded and I should expect a decision in early March. So are you saying they have the ability to offer admission to MAPH for rejected PhD applicants? I've heard similar negative things. Definitely going to be a last resort type of consideration, if I must fall back to using that kind of wording.
  12. Hey, me too. Can anyone provide some perspective on whether or not this referral is any indication of possibly being admitted to that program? Or is this something they do with a lot of their rejected applicants? That's even ignoring whether or not I'm actually interested in the program, which I find doubtful.
