  1. You think they’ll come in the mail or email? It’s weird though because let’s say they did send rejections out on February 4 or even in Janruary because you would think that they’d update our Carleton Central when they send out the letters. Mine still says under review.
  2. Also, York anticipates 2-years hearing back by the end of March.
  3. Yes me too! Mine came out to just under 1,500 words (3 pages). I reread my statement today and got worried it was too long and dense. I’m psyching myself out so much lol. Good luck
  4. The King’s BSW program does interviews, but probably spot on in that MSW have way too many applicants. I applied to Laurier, York, Carleton, Windsor, and Western for 2-year MSW. As a back up I applied to Lakehead 1-year HBSW program. I think that even if you got into your backup BSW it’ll be good because it’ll give you the ability to work with your BSW while completing you’re MSW too.
  5. Omg that is so true. The first rejection letter went out like what February 4? Ahh. So things are hopeful for us if they sent them out the same date as last year. I’m so excited/nervous/excited lol. Carleton is my second choice school, however the idea of living in Ottawa is starting to grow on me.
  6. I’m in the same boat as you. My average isn’t as competitive as it could be; but I’m still holding out hope because I feel that I have a decent amount of experience for my age. You seem like you have a ton of experience. So try not to sweat it . It sounds very hopeful to me! Did you apply anywhere elSs?
  7. It’s amazing because if I do get accepted it’ll make the next few months waiting on the other schools a lot less nerve racking. Agh. I’m so antsy. Do you know much about how competitive Carleton is in comparison to other programs?
  8. Yeah! It’s possible Stephanie was mistaken and thought that I applied for the 1-year program hence her response. Hwoever, I really hope we all find out this month! I will be so sad to wait until March. Maybe they’ve been really quick and diligent processing applications and can release both 1-year and 2-year... WISHFUL thinking haha
  9. I knowwww!! I've been obsessively checking. Also, that's for the 2-year MSW..unless they are both the same. I feel like Carleton gets less applicants than other universities judging off of the previous forum's on Grad Cafe- this could be me being extremely hopeful haha.
  10. I got an email from Carleton and she said applicants will start hearing from them mid- late february. Ah. The suspense and anxiety is killing me.
  11. Thanks! I stuck with the reference although she hasn’t known me for long. I feel that using her reflects my intent more. Some things she scored me lower simply because she could not speak to it in the short time she’s known me, however she also addressed that as her reasoning. Here’s to hoping for the best
  12. For western and Laurier I am using a reference from a full-time job but she’s known me only 6 weeks. My other professional reference has known me 3 years. Do you think that using the reference whose only known me 6 weeks would seriously impact my application in a negative way? I’m in a limbo in terms of finding another professional reference whose in a manager/supervisor position due to the high turn over rate in my previous jobs. An alternative option could be using a coworker who is not a manager/supervisor and is from the same organization as my other reference . Do you think having two references from different organizations looks better in this case than using two references from the same organization? Any knowledge about the reference aspect of the application would be great
  13. Does anyone have any knowledge about Windsor U’s 2-year MSW program? I am hearing mixed reviews about it. Thanks
  14. I am also curious about the personal statement for York. I’m having a hard time condensing everything into 500 words. Any tips on what is crucial to touch on would be super helpful!!
  15. I applied to the 2-year MSW program at Carleton. I chose to write my personal statement as an essay as I felt that it flowed a lot better than answering the questions. I had an overall theme related to gender inequality and the unique experience of homelessness for women flowing through out the paper.
  16. I am curious if anyone knows how Carleton U weights grades vs. experience. I’m applying to the 2-year MSW program. My gpa could be better. For the last 2 years it barely meets the minimum requirement indentified online. I have 3 years experience working in a homeless shelter, currently work as a mental health worker for CMHA, and a housing stability worker for a local addictions agency. I’m so nervous that my gpa is going to mess up my chances. I’m also planning to applying to Laurier, York, and maybe King’s. So any information would be much appreciated Best of luck everyone!
