  1. I hope it’s today because the weekend will be rough otherwise!! Im having such a hard time paying attention in class right now.
  2. IT JUST CHANGED TO DECISION MADE. Anxiety is through the roof.
  3. Me too. My parents and roommates keep asking but I keep telling them, “Trust me you’ll know when I know!”
  4. Has anyone received a rejection from the University of Minnesota this season? I still haven’t heard one way or the other but I’m wondering if anyone else has.
  5. I’m currently reading The Italian by Ann Radcliffe.
  6. I grew up in Minnesota and attend a MN university right now so it only makes sense for me to try again for the U. I've been accepted to a masters program already so I'm not in complete despair.
  7. I'm right there with you, but also finding it difficult to think positively. I've even already started making plans to apply again after I get my masters.
  8. It also makes me nervous that despite how confident in my application I might be, its always a crap shoot.
  9. I've noticed that too. I'm pretty confident in my writing sample and my GPA as its around 3.7 (science and math classes got me too). The fit is also a concern for me as I'm very interested in medical history and I realized too late about their medicine and technology history program to apply.
  10. Mine isn't either! Hopefully we don't have to freak out much longer.
  11. I saw that earlier and thought it might be you! Fingers crossed for us!
  12. I had a very similar problem with one of my recommendation writers, who ended up not submitting letters to 2 schools I was really considering going to. What also sucks is, he's still my academic adviser.
  13. I was SSE for all of my freshman year and I did one clinical experience and was done with it. I've looked online a little bit for Latin courses and haven't come up with much. I'll have to look into summer programs because I'd love to do that if I had some funding.
  14. I know, she told me that too. Unfortunately when I started undergrad I was a Social Studies Ed major and once I realized I wanted to go to History grad school it was too late to start language classes and graduate on time. Its a big reason why Minnesota isn't my only option and why I probably will go to a MA program first if I get rejected.
  15. Considering the fact that I have little to no language skills, a master's degree might serve me well. I'm applying to the Master's program at USF, not the PhD, sorry for the confusion. I am a aware that their PhD program is relatively new (or doesn't have many graduates) and doesn't have as much prestige. However, they do offer Latin at USF which would help me tremendously in a Masters program for future PhD applications. I know that they all are a reach, but I was singling out Notre Dame as being extremely far out there for me.
  16. Recently since all my applications have been sent in, I've been thinking a lot about my chances of getting into a PhD program. I am currently a senior undergraduate student, and I've been wondering whether it would be better to get a master's degree in history or public history (I've applied for both)? Would it give me a better chance of getting into a PhD program afterward? Also, I have applied for and been accepted to small state schools with masters programs. What is the perception of small state school's masters degrees in history? Are they less reputable or less impressive? Let me know. I've applied to the PhD programs at the University of Minnesota, University of South Florida, Arizona State University, and Notre Dame (a reach).
  17. My specific interests are English midwives and their role in medical practice in the medieval period and none of the professors are specifically in my research area either. Dr. Reyerson told me that they don't have an English historian, but that I could still make it work. The U of M has a historical library that is focused towards medical documents (The Wangensteen Library), I was there this week and that's what is also drawing me there. I suppose its not the best fit for me interest wise, but location and prestige it is. Technically my top choice is Notre Dame's Medieval Studies program but I know it is out of my reach, even though I applied.
  18. My interests are within women's history and medical history in the medieval period so I chose Dr. Kathryn Reyerson and I've spoken with her via phone and email. I also chose Dr. Anna Clark. For my secondary general area of study I chose Dr. Howard Louthan and Dr. JB Shank. I was very disappointed that Dr. Ruth Mazo Karras left the U of M this year as my interests fit her field of expertise perfectly. What about you?
  19. The only reason I ask is because I heard back from them so early and I've been told that smaller state schools like the one I was accepted to that use rolling admission are not as reputable.
  20. Was this the University of Minnesota's History PhD program? I am applying there as well and it is my top choice!
