  1. What's with the FSU staggered decisions? How many were actually admitted? Guess it's about time to cross it off the list for myself.
  2. In the same boat. A good idea to take a break and go camping to save your sanity. Hopefully an acceptance letter will be waiting for you when you get back
  3. Any Vandy interviews here? This week was the time for those.
  4. Cool. You still have multiple chances of getting admitted . Don't give up.
  5. Thanks. Sounds like these programs require sufficient knowledge of the Japanese language despite them being in English. I guess the language of instruction might be mixed given the students are largely local.
  6. Sorry for any confusion. My question was rather about Japanese universities having PSci/IR PhD programs in the English language. Since I don't know about your situation/knowledge of the Japanese language etc.
  7. Ah! OK. P.S. Does Japan have any English language IR programs?
  8. What visa are you on in the US? You did both your undergrad and grad from America?
  9. @hp88 True that. For Vanderbilt at least, the next week is the ultimate decider. Even many other universities will be coming up with results etc.
  10. Absolutely right! Wishing that analogy works for this thing too.
  11. @CambridgeHeismanLord The entire process is very subjective. Still, many universities are increasingly turning to interviews. In a way that's good as one can have another shot at impressing the adcomms if there were deficiencies in the scores/GPA etc.
  12. I can't say about others but the Vanderbilt DGS did mention that in his email. From what I've read here, some people do get accepted without interviews and some have been rejected even after them.
  13. Vanderbilt will also interview shortlisted candidates this coming week. Their DGS sent an email last month detailing the process, where he clearly mentioned those not getting the invites should assume rejection.
  14. It's OK. I just wanted to make it clear for other, silent readers who might have thought otherwise. Thanks for your input.
  15. A couple of people here (though not myself, I've not reached the interview stage) have been rejected after interviews at US universities. So it's kind of not right to assume interviews are just an informal chat before sending formal acceptance letters. It does indicate one is shortlisted and all but doesn't guarantee a place.
  16. I'll come up with "Future endeavors" and "Next time."
  17. Those with 15 or 20 applications will get in somewhere at the end of the day. I only did five applications so you do the math. On the flipside, not getting admitted anywhere with that many applications would be a real shocker.
  18. We need to make a Broken Hearts Club of PhD rejects
  19. Ahan! Did you spend time in the profession or jumping directly into another field? Judging by your acceptance rate, the adcomms appear that be impressed.
  20. Who's that MS Physics guy or girl that got into UCSD program? That's a very peculiar academic background.
  21. The proverbial calm before the storm. Next week is gonna make or break the PhD dreams of many people.
  22. Japan offers English language IR programs?
