Hello all!!! I hope you’re doing swell!

It’s April and it’s been a looooong journey! Though it is not over for all of us, I’d love to hear where everyone has decided to committ to. It’s been great hearing everyone’s stats and results.

I have high hopes for everyone in this field and I look forward to calling you my colleagues. Make change whenever you go!!

    Fordham University, Lincoln Center.

I also want to pursue the macro track. Like you, I want to create change within the current systems and policies and I hope to do that through advocacy work in a nonprofit. I hope everything works out with your green card. I don't think you'll be able to apply for FASFA without a green card, but hopefully schools will give you nice financial packages. Unfortunately only citizens are eligible for government financial aid.

@boyers2 @SSocial Did either of you plan on attending Fordham in the fall?

  3. Hi everyone! I did not go on this forum due to not applying to Columbia for the fall, but did get accepted to Fordham University and see a bunch of you all have been talking about there! Has anyone decided to attend Fordham this Fall or thinking about it? I was accepted but unsure if I want to attend. I would like to know one person maybe!

Hi, I am struggling deciding which school I should accept.

I got admission from Uof Michigan and U Penn, and Upenn gave me more scholarship than UMichigan. I am planning to study macro social work.

If this was your case, which school would you guys prefer?

U of Mich is the top school for Social Work, but funding is the most important thing. Michigan's program is only 16 months though I think.

Thanks for your reply! I also applied the day before due date but I wonder why I did not hear back from them.. makes me worry. Do you think it will mean that i am rejected?

I am unsure. I would check your email. I received an email stating their decision and that was to waitlist me. I also saw on the Wolverine account that I had to formally accept the waitlist decision to be considered. You need to take the ID the emailed you and make a "friend account" on their Wolverine website. If you have the ability, try calling the admissions office today and they can answer your questions about how to make an account, as it was pretty difficult for me.

Hi! I also applied to UM! Can I ask you the date you applied? I am still waiting for their answer :(

Hello! I applied the day before early applications were due. I suspect that’s why I was waitlisted. I heard that the only way to be considered was to apply early admissions.

There is still a chance that you will be accepted later on! If you're still in school then this last semester work your butt off and maybe get involved in some new volunteer work too? Your feelings are your own and I think I would feel similar if I was in your situation so I personally don't think you're overreacting.

Thank you so much. I've been thinking about it, and I think being waitlisted for the top Social Work program in the US is a pretty good start.

  8. You guys will understand. I told my grandparents (they raised me like their own child) that I was waitlisted for my top choice, and they said congratulations and others also said similar. I felt like I got shot when I was waitlisted. I won't get scholarships due to being the last pick, and won't know possibly for months. Do you guys think I am overreacting? I feel defeated.

Nice. I've heard Hunter does things pretty late - like interviews in April/May. It actually deterred me from applying as my top choice is Columbia. I anticipate hearing back from them in February and figure I have a better shot with them anyway! Good luck with the rest of your applications! I definitely had to hound my recommenders to get the materials in. NYU responded very quickly to my application. I was accepted the same week that I got an email confirming all my materials were in.

I didn't decide to apply to Columbia due to my GPA/grades and how much I heard they cost. My last recommender is slacking and has not sent in the NYU recommendation which is the last material I need. I am hoping they respond shortly after. I did not like NYU's Social Work building from what I have heard and seen online of it, but that's just a +/- factor. I had also heard they are pretty pricey, even though I got a fee waiver for the application, almost immediately. What was the financial aid package like that you got from NYU? I heard CUNY Hunter takes quite a while to respond, but some people said they didn't take long at all, so that's a factor.

Oh bummer! Have you heard back on any of your other applications?

I haven't! I have only officially applied to one other school, CUNY Hunter, but they have not sent anything. One of my recommenders is slacking quite a bit (two months for a couple recommendations??).

You seem like a good fit for University of Michigan. My GPA for the last two semesters of college were horrible. I wrote an additional statement explaining the reasons I received low GPAs during that time. Earned admission and a generous scholarship to UMich.

    Good luck!

    Thank you so much!

  12. Hello!! I am in the process of applying to grad schools for an MSW. I am applying to:

    • University at Michigan-Ann Arbor (Early Application)
    • New York University
    • Fordham University (Lincoln Center)
    • CUNY Hunter
    • University at Buffalo
    • University at Albany
    • Syracuse University.

I have sent in Michigan and NYU already due to receiving fee waivers.

I am still waiting on one reference to send in her references (the other two sent theirs on the same day I asked for them, over a month ago).

I have a 3.0ish GPA but have two semesters left to increase that (hopefully).

My major was not Social Work, due to my college not having it. I had received a full scholarship to RIT and decided not to switch major but to create a degree in an individualized program school.

My degree is a Bachelor of Science, in Applied Arts and Sciences, with concentrations in Social Work and Medical Science. I have a minor in Psychology and one in Communication. I also have done a paid internship at a child care center.

I am from New York state, but my top choice is University at Michigan.
