Now I hate all the letters my Department Assistant sent to us. I don't care about the stupid printer or something else, AT ALL. I guess my anxiety and lack of sleep these days make me much easier on the trigger.

Congrat!! What program did you apply to? Stat or Biostat? MS or PhD? I mean for UNC and NCSU. -

I tend to believe those isolated early ads/interviews are for applicants affiliated to the department, says current undergraduate or master students. My friend in EE/CS just suggested another possibility: the applicant may have contacted professor/PI in advance and got admitted. But I'm not sure whether it works for Stat/Biostat. -

According to the same person, on the Chineses forum I mentioned before, UMich accepted about 14 their own MS students as new PhD students LAST year. And there may be 20 or so new PhDs, different from year to year. I do hope the "20" is the # of enrollment, not of admission. So I guess it's a reallllly competitive program... (Well I knew that.) Good luck to everyone here waiting for UMich. Yeah, next week can be so exciting that this weekend is harder than ever. I'll try my best to mute both fora I refresh all the time this weekend. Even giving it a thought freaks me out. I'll try Netflix, and do some reading if possible. Else I will "Keep calm and HIT F5". -

I was told that UMich Biostat has a strong preference for their MS student when recruiting PhDs. And it seems that they have not started to process the outside applicants. I guess I can still be positive for a while. -
I'm not sure about the biostat, but CWRU's stat (Math department) seems to have a tradition of sending out offers after April... And I have trouble falling asleep these days, too. Really sad about it.

Another silent day for me. How about you guys? -
I spent about $1800. I took GRE twice. And I must have paid for two or three extra transcripts at the last minute of apps because I was sooooo nervous that I just cannot make it clear. The application system just said my transcript was not received. As an international student, I have to pay for WES in addition. I'll be extremely guilty if I don't get in anywhere. T_T

A heartbreaking news about Emory Biostat PhD from the department: "The Emory Biostatistics PhD Admissions Committee has not made any final decisions on admission into the PhD program. We are in the process of sending out invitations to visit Emory or to conduct Skype interviews. If you did not hear from us then you are not in the first round of interviews." Congrat to those who already heard from Emory! -

I found Emory kinda tricky. The MS program is applied through SOPHAS, I guess, while the PhD program is through the Laney Graduate school. This reply is from LGS. I also wrote to the Dpt. Biostat, but no reply is received till now. I will update the reply as soon as I get it. But I believe you can still hope for the good news! No news ≠ Rejection~ P.S. Do you know anything about the OPUS thing? -
Right, it is!! Thank you!!

realllllJulia replied to Bayesian1701's topic in Mathematics and Statistics
I wrote to Emory earlier this afternoon, because I found some applicants to the Biostat master program were given a link to register an OPUS (Online Pathway to University Students). I was really panic then as I have never heard about that before. They replied that: "We have not begun sending decisions for admission into the PhD program (in Biostat)." -
I just got my first interview invitation! It's the formal Recruitment Weekend. I'm so excited now.

Me too! Checking my inbox and reloading the result page again and again are driving me crazy! Even one acceptance can calm me down. Crossed fingers.

Don't worry. You have done pretty well. Hope the other 7 are good news! On the result page, Emory has an interview this year. I just can't help reload the result page every 5 minutes. -

FYI From a Chinese grad forum's 2017 reports: The last (reported and listed) UFL's offer to Biostat PhD came April 17 ... Duke Stat PhD: April 6 ... UNC Stat PhD: April 3; Biostat PhD: March 12 ... OSU Biostat PhD: March 31 ... UPitts Biostat PhD: March 18 ... NCSU Stat PhD: March 6 [FSU as well] ... UCD Stat PhD: March 12 ... PSU Biostat PhD: March 7 ... Emory [and Vanderbilt] Biostat PhD: Feb 23 [ I believe this is not the last date. And there are several offer to UMich Biostat PhD around Feb 15. I don't know if I missed anything cuz the thread is a little bit messy. The list is not complete as I am not able to check all the posts in the thread. And the list shares a small intersection with my apps. Hope it will help to calm us down a little bit, at least for now. Good luck everyone. -
I understand your feeling. Maybe you can talk to your advisor/mentor and ask for their advice. People who know you well as well as working in your field may have a better solution to your current situation.

I applied to UNC and Michigan (the same as you), as well as Berkeley, UCLA, UC San Diego, Emory, Case Western Reserve and OSU. Now, the results page has an AD for UNC and OSU each. I'm dying for waiting.

One of my top choices admitted someone before Christmas! And this lucky guy posted it today. OMG I'm getting really nervous now. It's much earlier than I expected. I thought it could be late Jan. to early Mar. Need to do something to calm down.
-
WOW!! Hope you get in! I just found on the result page that someone has got the admission to M.S. in biostat from Emory. I applied to Emory's PhD program. I'm getting really nervous now. I cannot work anymore I think.

I become anxious whenever I am thinking of my applications. Though it's my second round, as a master student now, I just can't help thinking of it. It feels like I will be rejected by all the programs I applied one day and I will be admitted to my dream school definitely the other day.

Late LOR's: How late is TOO late
realllllJulia replied to kierkegoth's topic in Letters of Recommendation
Well, till now, I have all of my letters in. Though I still have not got any reply from the departments how late is "too late". I met my advisor on Wednesday. For some reason, he believed "Generally the deadline for application is 15th", though I sent him the list of programs as well as their deadlines weeks ago. Another fact is the deadline for our department is also Dec 1. I do appreciate that he finally submitted all the letters Thursday late night. What I learned: Berkeley (programs using SOPHAS) will allow 7 to 10 days after Dec 1 to complete the application. This 'complete' includes the letters and transcripts. SOPHAS required exactly the same email address: the one you provided and the one the professor registered. Otherwise, professors won't be matched to your request in the system, though they can receive an email. A 10-min talk works way better than 10 emails. Good luck everybody!
