  1. Hey same here! I just felt that such a big class may not be a personalized experience at all. I also didn't apply bcz New York is too expensive to live in. But the class size is my major reason too. Having had studied in such a big class before, I definitely want my Masters experience to be a lil personalized.
  2. No rejection email per se. But since they had said that they will declare invites on 23rd (they did it on 24th) i.e. only on one day, not getting an invite email means being rejected. This is what we all are assuming.
  3. Thank you ! ? After my Indiana rejection yday, this finally made me smile. Bdw congrats to all who got invites from Indiana. ??? ?
  4. Thank you so much. I am thankful they saw my application worthy enough to accept my Skype request. This gives me so much hope at this point of time. ☺️
  5. Guys I finally got my Oklahoma Skype interview confirmed. My very first interview offer! Thank you to all who hoped I would get it! Finally some good news! ???
  6. I didn't get one either. How do u know the exact number - 55 ?
  7. I realized it just now that I don't actually like knowing the invite date. I m continuously checking my mail. It's almost 2pm in Indiana. Why aren't they sending out the invites !!!
  8. I feel the same. Honestly, they explain almost everything in the orientation. And I contacted the programs before applying with a lot of questions, even viewed their info seminars and all. There is hardly anything left to inquire when they give us the opportunity to ask. Last year, I asked a professor about the city - literally about how the city is and how the people are ! Because all the important questions were answered by the program director beforehand. I felt so foolish after that. From where are we suppose to come up with interesting questions?!!!
  9. Guys I was just trying to find out interview questions that I might need to prepare for, if my Oklahoma interview is finalized and I found this in my notes - If you are re-applying and have added new universities to your application list and have received interview offers from those new universities - It is important to prepare an answer as to why you did not apply to that university last time but have applied this time. It reflects on how you chose your universities.
  10. Thank you so much for your kind words and for rooting for me. I love that I feel heard on this forum! And I agree with you that it can look bad on their part if they decide not to. Last year, my interview letters already included details about Skype. One of them did not have the dates, but they had confirmed that they will conduct the interview via Skype. So this is my first time not knowing in the interview offer itself about this. But I have my fingers crossed! I think they will discuss it and get back to me tomorrow or in this week. Just gto keep hoping!
  11. I got my very first interview offer!!! From Oklahoma. Got it about 2 hours ago, but haven't received a definitive response regarding the possibility of a Skype interview yet. I don't know if they can cancel my interview offer only because of this. I have no clue. Before applying to Oklahoma, I had phoned them up and they said that they "maybe able to offer Skype interview". They never actually said yes or no. So now I don't know how to feel - should I be excited about getting an interview offer or should I be concerned that I haven't actually got it in terms of a finalized Skype interview date! I wish I was in the states or at least able to afford the interview in-person! This really sucks!
  12. I had made a general spreadsheet last year with basic info, nothing specific to interview. I haven't made any this year but here are the general column heads we could use for this interview spreadsheet. University - explanation & eligibility for the Match tracks - mentorship/guidance for students in the program - job opportunities in the specific state - assistantship opportunities during the program - alumni questions - on-campus housing if applicable. Most of this will already be explained during the orientation they have before the interview but if there are specific questions from it then we can enquire those. Like I would add questions about visa and part-time work opportunities on-campus for international students. I haven't started preparing for interviews yet. I just want atleast one interview offer before I start studying for the interviews. So I m also looking for suggestions about how to prepare for the interviews...
  13. I think Pittsburgh too. Last year I heard from them on 24th Jan. So maybe they will send out invites this week.
  14. My last recommendation was in on 22nd Dec but I submitted the application on 10th Dec. I still haven't heard from Minnesota. I m going to have an heart attack if I don't get an interview from them.
  15. Has anybody out here applied to Oklahoma ? Their notification dates were 2nd & 3rd week of Jan. And today is the 3rd Friday. I did not find any mention of Oklahoma on the results page either. I m really worried now... Did anybody apply to/interview with them last year? If so, when were you notified of the interview/rejection ?
  16. I actually lacked advocacy (non GC) work experience. I worked on it too. And I too reached out to others for review like you. It really helps a lot. And I was really surprised that people from the states, who didn't even know me in-person, agreed to review my statement and let me schedule phone calls to learn more about the field. Practicing GCs and current students. I couldn't believe it. I am so thankful to them. They really gave me a better perspective on all of this. All the best to you too!
  17. That sounds like a great backup plan. Btw congratulations on your interview offers. And Happy Birthday!
  18. Actually, I didn't get in because my statement of purpose wasn't up to par based on the feedback from universities. They needed me to be more mature and have a more personal connection towards pursuing the studies. I hadn't mentioned any of my life experiences or about my financial background, I had only mentioned what my academic record already said, I hadn't really expressed how certain cases/patients or my personal life had directed me here. But this year due to one of my new work experience I was able to connect the dots and really introspect on it. I mentioned everything in my current personal statement. I hope that the universities where I am re-applying see it as personal growth in terms of understanding my life choices. Fingers crossed. And thank you for suggesting about Australia. I did look into it actually. It is a good option but I noticed that the field isn't as established as the states and I was not able to find anything that said about growth in job opportunities for GCs there. Maybe I didn't conduct my research sincerely because I was and am set on US & Canada. But it sure is an option.
  19. Thank you so much. But I don't see it that way. It's actually my mother who has given me the courage to pursue my dreams. My father passed away when I was 11, and my mother went from being a housewife to working as a bank clerk 12 hours/day, against the wishes of my patriarchal family. We had to end all ties with our family because of this. And it has been 13 years now, my mom still works her 12hour job, has raised me all by herself and is here ready to support me for my outrageous "GC in US" ambition. Along these years, I have faced criticism that why didn't I just study engineering or some established field in India and go work and earn for my mom, but my mother always pushed me for finding a field where I belong, because after her experience she realized that for a woman her job is not just a means of income but a big part of her independence and identity. I think her point is that find work that I am passionate about and stick with it because your work will stick it out with you through your life's toughest times. All the best to you too! I see that some 54 of us are following this forum topic, and I hope all of us make it. Would love to meet you folks in-person.
  20. Yes we all will be. I really like how this forum brings us applicants together. ☺️
  21. How about you ? Is it the last attempt for you too? And if so, why? Anyone else who feels like this is their make or break application cycle ?
  22. Thank you and good luck to you too. You see, I m from a middle class background from India. Applying twice itself has cost me a lot of money in Indian currency. And all the advocacy experience I have tried to gain in these 2 years is not exactly paid for. I cannot afford to apply a third time and not earn/try to find a job and earn for another year. Plus I think if I don't make it twice then I probably don't deserve it anyway. My financial limitations are the reason why I applied to mostly mid-west schools and Canada, mainly to reduce my living costs and hence the student loan required. I actually have a master's degree pertaining to Genetic Counseling from India. But neither is the field established enough out here and nor do I feel that I m adequately trained for the job because in my degree GC was taught through 3 theory courses and one 5 month shadowing experience. I do not feel adequately prepared and want to study the field in depth and work in the awesome Genetic Counseling community in North America. And so if I don't get the admission this year, I will have to find a related work position here and settle for it. It's not the worst case scenario but I have been wanting to study in the states for 8 years now. I wanted to get in after my 10th grade here, but the fees was too high, then again after my 12th grade I wasn't sure about my specific field and so did my bachelor's here, eventually realized that only PhD is affordable for me but then I came across GC and it blew my mind away and I just couldn't seem to not give this career path a try even if it means a lot of student debt and years of paying it off. It's just worth it.
  23. I know this feeling all too well. For me this is my last attempt. And I too applied to more universities than last time. It only adds to the number of universities to have to worry about. N not hearing anything yet makes me totally doubt myself. Why aren't the days just going by faster ?!!! I wish we had like a more centralized approach to these notifications too - like in the match itself if we had a date where all universities had to notify about interviews at the same time. It would be like a band aid and bittersweet. ?? Anyone else imagining better scenarios to avoid freaking out ?! ?
