    LastName_FirstName format

I think you should be fine. It would be silly to just have documents uploaded all to one place, for all of them to sort out later into a database. It makes more sense that the database is filled dynamically.

I'm glad you guys got a kick out of it! I was chuckling to myself while I made it.

But the good news is the wait is almost over. I'm looking forward to the cool spreadsheet we'll make after the announcement so we can piece together if all of this ever meant anything or if we were going crazy and grasping at straws. Either way, I'm #decembergang forever now.

If you think about it, if the dates are representative of disciplines within BAAs communicating information to sysplus, many may not be upfront or quick with relaying that information. So my bet is that the dates are not solely indicative of rounds of reviews. As all of us have said before, it's all speculation and we'll likely know this Friday. So let the countdown continue!

    ITS THE FINAL COUNTDOWN !!!

How many times can I refresh this thread and my SysPlus Application page in one day before it's considered self--harm?

    Asking for a friend

you could write a script in tampermonkey that refreshes the page automatically until one of the elements change. If it changes, then play loud sound

I'm between two programs: one in chemical engineering and one in chemistry. I won NSF-GRFP last week, but those funds can only be used towards the chemistry program. I need to know about NDSEG to figure out if the chemical engineering program is even an option.

    Are you #DecemberGang ?

my application was just updated to 2/28

It means that you will win free bitcoins at a cryptocasino ! But seriously, don't worry about it. All it means is that they are hard at work. They will get the results in a few days. We've waited too long. We can wait a few more days. This thread has taught me that reading into something with half baked knowledge is never a good idea.

Edit: And no, my date is still 12/24

Can someone make an official-looking profile and just comment here that these dates mean nothing

I just realized something crazy ! Even if the dates do matter, it's not going to change the final decision. And if I even interpret something from the dates, the final decision still trumps whatever extrapolation I came up with ! So who cares ? We already know the decisions come out Friday.

I just want to point out that most people on this thread (except me) claim themselves to be strong applicants who would be "disappointed if they didn't make it past initial screening." If we all think of ourselves to be so competitive, perhaps we are not as competitive as we think.

Sure. I get this. But there was a guy who had *20 publications*. And there were people with near perfect gpas and GRE scores. If the first  round is a result of looking at primarily GRE and GPA, and those kinds of candidates didn't make it past the first round, then WHO did??

Btw, he mentioned that they have received several hundred calls over the past few days. I mentioned the application dates, but he didn't give me any info (also remember @Physicsisphysicsasked before and they said they were meaningless).

Doesn't this reinforce the claim that the woman said it just to make people feel better?

Alright then, I will try to just breath until Friday. Thanks for reaching out! And if it isn't Friday, well RIP the sanity of this forum, including myself.

If that's the case, then I'm outta here

I was once told by a mentor that these kind of numbers for someone who is early career can be treated as a red flag by reviewers since it is hard to meaningfully contribute to that many works (obviously I have no idea what your situation is though)

He might be going back to school though after being in the industry/workforce for many years. And even if the publications were a red flag, he has a pretty high GPA. Not sure about his GRE scores however, but I'd imagine they were high as well.

    another data point:

3.9 GPA, ~20 publications, and DoD experience.

I don't feel entitled to any fellowship, but I would be very disappointed to learn that I didn't make the first cut.

Discipline: Aeronautical and Astronautical Engineering (including Space Physics)
    Last Update:12/18/2019

If this guy doesn't get it, then it's a rigged game. I won't feel bad for getting rejected then.

So are we agreeing that a Dec update means you didn't get past the initial screening? I'm honestly v surprised I didn't; I have a good GPA/test scores/whatever, and I got GRFP so I would think my application would go past the first round at least. Meh.

Based on the new data I compiled, yes. There were 35 people in total, of which 4 people got most recent update. That's about 12%. The acceptance rate is about 5%. Given this is GradCafe, this would be much higher, maybe twice? So yeah. If you have a December update (me included), take the black pill. You didn't get the fellowship. 16/35 people had a December update. That's a little less than 50%. But a significant portion. And they don't tell you why you didn't make it past the first cut.
