The graduate school kills the top-off for anyone making over 35,000 a year. Which is some bull as funded students bring in a ton of money and prestige for them.

Claim that you make less by donating part of your salary to an offshore charity, hidden by shelve corporations obviously, that you start. Then use a VPN to access your offshore bank account tied to the charity and buy Monero from a decentralized exchange, and send the monero back to your wallet. Convert to bitcoin, and withdraw in a coinbase account, and route to bank account. All transactions will be hidden. And by donating, you can claim that you make less than 5k a year as far as the university is concerned.

This way, you can have your cake, and eat it too !

I would think that they should have already been able to make those decisions. Two hypotheticals, either they win the NDSEG or they don't. Either way they can have made their choice pending the NDSEG decision right?

Sometimes, schools give "conditional" acceptances. "You only get in if you get external funding".

Some schools accept candidates without guaranteeing funding for a full four to five years. So a professor may have funding for two years, but if he can't secure funding for the three years afterwards, then the student has no choice but to leave with a masters, or transfer to another group.

These would be perfect situations in which the results of the NDSEG matter.

I leave no stone unturned in my quest for information.

I hope you are a PhD student, and if not, got offers for it. That's the perfect mindset for the PhD !

Guys this is insanity. Yes if you get the fellowship, that certainly makes your life much easier and is a wonderful feather in your cap. This achievement should not be diminished. This does not, however, mean that if you win this fellowship, that you're done. How you execute over the next several years is ultimately what determines your success. I'm certain if a modicum of the enthusiasm over the dates in this thread were to be applied to your research work, you career dreams would be realized.

Not sure why you're being downvoted. This is for encouraging people who don't get fellowships. Still ~DecemberGang~

Just a thought to spice up the anxiety -- have we considered the possibility that the dates correlate with when we originally submitted the applications? Like, maybe #DecemberGang submitted their applications earlier (or later) than others? Or not... probably not...

Nah, I submitted mine on the due date. I hope I didn't get ruined by not having a scan of an official transcript. What a dumb f*ckin rule. My impression was that if you get selected, THEN you submit an official transcript.

Ok then I feel much better. I have a patent that had an initial 'non-final rejection' back in like October so I removed it from my application because I assumed that might look bad, and then my old company's lawyers submitted a rebuttal document and now it's back in review...whatevsies.

I remember that I didn't do this. I discovered the slash character caused issues with form submission.

Why will it necessarily be monday through wednesday? just what was done in past years?

Not sure what was done in the past, but someone did call sysplus, and they mentioned that it's highly likely for decisions to be confirmed by Friday. And emails to go out early next week.

I wonder if anyone is going to refresh the NDSEG website at 12:01am in case they have a published list set up as a scheduled update?  I very well might.

Nah, If the news comes out, it will come out Monday through Wednesday. I doubt they will publish the list of those who won. And we only find out through emails. Though the decisions would have been made by Friday, we won't know them until we get emails.

so I'm inclined to believe that we are seeing patterns that don't exist.

Or do they? DUN DUN DUNNNNNN. You'll only find out after the commercial break.

Seriously though, @Physicsisphysics relayed a similar point.

Seems like Lurker is working on several different PhDs

?? I'll take the bait. They are people who view the thread but don't participate. Hence "Lurker" ?

overpredict ONR awards and underpredict AFRL and ARO awards

Given that fewer people applied to ONR, could this be plausible?

Yeah, it kind of sucks waiting. At least you got an update though: I'm stuck before Christmas !

Part of me feels like the people with the Feb update and the three April updates are gonna get awarded. #JumpingToEvenMoreConclusions

Yeah, that's what I suspect. To play Devil's advocate, December updates and 2020 updates are divided nearly 50/50. In this case, 47 for Dec and 40 for 2020
