Yeah, I think I get it now! Are you saying that you wouldn’t be able to work with the potential supervisor at Ottawa if you don’t apply to their PhD program in social work? I think you should stick with SW unless you think there will be better job opportunities in another field - as you said, it’s an interdisciplinary subject by nature, and you already have such a strong background in the area. I don’t think you should worry too much about what your friend said. There’s room for innovation everywhere in the humanities and I think it’s okay to sometimes push the boundaries of what a particular subject can be.

Congrats on your decision! I decided to accept my offer as well! I’ll be an advanced standing student in the policy concentration. I’m moving from Arizona! 
We should definitely organize something for everyone on this thread who attends in the fall!

I am happy to say that I have accepted Columbia’s offer and will be attending as a an advanced standing student! I have been going back-and-forth for a while, but I know this is the right choice for me. I am steadily rooting for you all that are waiting for your decision. I know that this is anxiety provoking experience, and I was in your shoes not too long ago. There are no right words to say for everyone but just know that your decision is coming. 
The theory about them marking you down for calling multiple times, could be possible.  Anything could be possible! But I would hope that there is a high regard for professionalism at Columbia, and that it would not be the case. I also say this because I called many times before receiving my acceptance Lol. 
If anyone is going back and forth, I am not qualified to tell you about the program 100% of course. But I could give you some insight on my decision! 
Also, any one who is moving to New York City, I am actively looking to connect with my fellow social workers as I will be coming from across the country! Networking is key! Feel free to PM me.

Just talked to BC and confirmed that I have been wait listed! So if anyone else gets that letter, that’s what it means, haha. I feel a little silly for being so confused but I was just really expecting to be rejected, tbh.

I would call them first thing tomorrow morning. Maybe they may be able to shed some light on the situation. That is very weird though. I’m so sorry

I don't think this is necessarily true. I called around the second week of February and received my acceptance the following week. It seems highly unlikely that the person answering the phones (likely an administrative person) is also reviewing applications. 

So I went ahead and accepted NYU’s offer. I don’t think I can wait until the (hopefully) end of April to set everything in motion to leave my job and move across the country.
But I’m still hanging around here, you guys. I am in it with you until the end!

Update: got my acceptance letter in the mail, with the merit scholarship. 
They pretty much gave me the same amount of scholarship as Simmons. 
I am definitely going to commit to BC.

Yeah, I agree - I feel like the process by which they handled your application was very fishy. I remember reading earlier on this thread or the other Columbia thread that a couple of faculty members who normally review applications quit, but of course, we have no way of knowing whether that’s true or not. I just know that last year my friend got a response within two weeks. Idk. That might have been an anomaly but in general the way they’re treating people just doesn’t sit right with me.

Yeah. And tbh I don’t even think they completely reviewed my application. I think they waited until the deadline I gave them and then were like “well let’s see if she accepts the waitlist and we’ll review it later.” Something is very off this year.

No. But it is Good Friday so their office was closed   I’m sorry you still haven’t heard anything
