Has anyone NOT heard back from VCU Painting and Printmaking yet? I haven't gotten anything from them at all. I'm assuming I'm most likely rejected.
I've posted it probably 10 times already, but I haven't either for photo. Not an email or a letter or anything, and my application was submitted back in early December. It's really not a good look, and I'm starting to get a little miffed about it. I've already happily accepted elsewhere, but I just want to know so I can stop thinking about it.

As an international student who is still a little bit lost with a lot of stuff, your comment has made my day. Thanks!
Even if I was accepted at UCLA, I am not sure if I would be able to afford it (LA is quite pricy ), so SCAD is my priority right now and you just confirmed what I already thought: it's going to be an awesome experience *___*. I'm so nervous...
Of course!
Savannah might not be a Los Angeles or a NYC, but they still have some great connections, especially since they have a campus in Atlanta! And it will be an awesome experience - exciting times for all of us, . Best of luck in whatever you decide!

First of all, thank you to all of you who shared their situations, I've been reading the topic for a while and it's been really helpful.
I've already been accepted to SCAD to their Animation MFA (in Savannah) with a pretty nice scholarship, any opinions about it?
I'm still waiting to hear from UCLA Animation Workshop. Anybody had any news from them? I was never interviewed so I expect a rejection, but this waiting is killing me.
Well, I went to SCAD for all four years of undergrad and graduated just a year ago, so I'm pretty up-to-date on them. I know SCAD can get some flack from some people (for reason's I've never fully understood, since I thought it was a great school during my experience), but if there's anything SCAD is really well known for, it's their animation department above all else. I've heard it's really fantastic - two of my roommates majored in animation, and they've already gone on to do a lot. SCAD's animation department also has some really nice relationships with a lot of companies like Disney, Activision, DreamWork, LucasFilm, Nick, etc. . . Plus, despite there being some crime like any other city, Savannah is actually quite a nice city to live in - it's very much affordable on the housing front, and it's a pretty city to boot.

Thanks TinaSlay, I'm not hurt too bad by it, I kind of saw it coming, I'm just really glad the waiting is over. I hope you hear better news than I did, fingers crossed! (:
Ahh, thank you, but I've definitely been rejected too. Didn't even get an interview notification. Just waiting on my rejection email / letter,

Rejected from Virginia Commonwealth through email, official rejection letter to come in the mail.
Sorry,

Anyone know of any good grants, maybe some specifically for graduate students (or inverse, some general grants)? I'm having some trouble finding some to apply to that aren't uber specific.

From what I’ve read on their site, the interview is a mandatory part of the process. Which leads me to believe they’ve already been conducted? Since it’s so late? ?♂️
Regardless, I’m glad I’m not the only person here who’s been waiting to hear back.
Eh, well. You win some you lose some.

For anyone still waiting to here from VCU photo:
I contacted the department. I got a kind response, apologizing for any inconvenience the delay has caused, saying that the review process formally ended last week. Letters with their decisions should be coming to all within the next week(ish).
Because the language was a little vague, I don't know for sure if this means interviews have already happened, etc. However, the time line on their admissions page does say that interviews are conducted late February and final decisions made in early April.
It may be safe to make assumptions based off of this information. Either way, everyone should know soon.
I hope this is helpful. Waiting is the worst.
Fantastic, thank you! Their process has been very long. I wonder if they interview every candidate, or accept some outright, .

There's like, a special level of burn for being ghosted. Rejection outright is disappointing, but a much easier pill to swallow. Being ghosted by a school is as if they didn't even wan't to talk to you at all,

Clearly I was wrong about CCC,
Had no idea Kelli Connell taught there.

@karain @wendi @Sylvieee Thanks for your perspectives on this. One of the things I am definitely trying to figure out is where my work fits in, though the fact that I was accepted with financial aid from both makes me think they both see me as a decent fit. For what it's worth, here is my website with my current work, if anyone is interested.
Good to see another past SCAD student! Nice work - the sixth image in What Else Is There? is super stunning. Good luck with your choice!

Yeah, I don't know much about CCC! All I was saying is that I think RISD has a much broader appeal outside of their cities than CCC does, and that might be worth something if that's the angle you're going for. Debt and money is definitely a huge factor though. Of course, so is the value of the program and the professors who teach it.

For Photo MFA, I have narrowed things down to Columbia College Chicago (with full scholarship) and RISD (with about $15k/year in funding). Feeling unsure of my move here.
Hmm . . . honestly, I'd say RISD. The full funding is great for CCC, but as far as I know, they're not super well known. RISD is one of the best, on the other hand. And at least you're getting 15k a year, so it's not nothing. That might be supplemented by the fact that Providence is a more affordable city than Chicago.

Thank you so much. Actually I was worried about their too small class and city
I've heard VCU is a fantastic school for MFA programs. Richmond is also a pretty nice city, and not too small - 200,000. Plus, it's close to other major areas.

Hi all,
Since I was only accepted to MICA, I'll def be going there, but am trying to decide between two programs - Mount Royal (multidisciplinary) and Photo and Electronic Media. Supposedly Mount Royal currently has a better reputation, but I got more money from PEM (50%, which is their biggest scholarship). I got 30% from Mount Royal. I've been talking to EVERYONE I can and thought maybe I'd post to this here trusty forum to see if anyone has any thoughts?
Also, did anyone on this forum get accepted to UCLA New Genres? I don't recall seeing any acceptances. If someone was, I would love to look at their website!
Thank you!!!
I'm going to MICA for PEM, got 36% scholarship. Why do you say MR has a better rep? I've been hearing very good things about PEM. I'd just say do whatever you feel is the stronger bet - you got more of a scholarship, which is a plus - do you see your work being most cultivated by PEM or by MR? That should be one of the biggest considerations . If you're more focused in that area, I'd say PEM. Both are at MICA, after all, which will still be a great school regardless.

Full funding and assistantship at VCU, which is also a great school? I'd 100% go for that, haha.

Still waiting to hear from VCU and UConn. I applied to VCU last year and I remember them taking a long time to reject me. The only acceptance I've gotten so far is for Nomad/9, and I'm trying to decide if I want to do that or see if I can get funded at UConn (or try again next year), so I have a decision to make.
I'm doing coursework at SMFA right now and that place is a mess tbh.
Did you interview for VCU? I'm pretty much expecting my rejection letter any day know, haha,

I only ask because a friend of mine who also applied to VCU painting this year received a rejection email a couple days ago and it is making me anxious that I haven't heard anything yet
Yeah . . . I've mentioned it a few times here before (it doesn't seem many photo people applied to VCU), but I've not heard anything either for photo, not a peep haha. No interview, rejection or acception.
-
I've already decided on going to MICA officially since it's a great program and was one of my top choices, but I still am curious about VCU's ghosting. I've not gotten a rejection or an interview request. Have people applying for photo there heard anything? I'm assuming I'm a reject and just haven't been notified.

It never hurts to write a thank you. It says I appreciate you and your time as well as the opportunity. I always assumed you should send one after an interview visit ect. It might not be necessary but its nice.
Yeah! I don't really know why it would be slimy? It's just cordial! I followed up with my interviewer with just a simple "Thank you for the interview, I'm very interested in the program and am looking forward to hearing back from ___ soon.
Best
