  1. Deferred MPP here - I wouldn't go that far, but I think it's safe to say that if your app was strong enough for a fellowship interview, it is one of the stronger apps for admission as well. But that doesn't account for: (1) Applicant pools for individual fellowships that are smaller than the overall HKS applicant pool, because they're opt-in (2) The goal of most selective programs to recruit diverse profiles into their classes (i.e., maybe 10 activists got a Gleitsman interview, but depending on how similar their experiences are, HKS might not take all 10 because there are only ~250 spots) That said, I would imagine that the faculty selection committees don't like to waste their time interviewing people that the admissions office has already rejected. My guess is that by this time in the process, the admissions office can at least identify some short(er)-list that's still in the running. TLDR: I wouldn't assume you're in, but they wouldn't interview you if you didn't have a credible shot.
  2. What are folks’ thoughts on the potential value of the loan repayment assistance program at HKS? Comparing HKS with no funding to a mid-level school with lots of funding but no loan repayment program (didn’t want to leave MA).
  3. In for MPP! Feel free to message me if you want to chat!
  4. Yeah I’m a little annoyed by all the anticipation tweets. It’s not like everyone is going to get some variation of a good outcome. We’re scared! Waaaa!
  5. I guess they could. My guess is that they finished reading names and matt went to sign letters while other people on the team finalized things in the system? Hoping for 5pm-ish
  6. Highly doubtful. They have to stuff the letters into folders too
  7. Yeah, I assumed everyone had this. For me, the text that disappeared was something saying “your application has been processed and is complete” etc.
  8. Same here.
  9. thank you! fingers crossed for you and everyone here! another thing that's making me want HKS even more is their newly rebuilt campus. it's gorgeous.
  10. if i'm lucky enough to be admitted, i don't expect much aid from HKS. i want to go there more than anything, but now that i have $60k in funding to another great school and close to a decade of work experience, i'm going to have to think long and hard about whether the name is worth it. since I live in Boston, HKS at sticker price is still comparable to an out-of-state school with aid (though the one that offered me aid is also in MA).
  11. They've been planning to release both at the same time, but the blog post this year says: "Information about financial aid is not communicated in an admission letter. A separate email will be sent to each admitted applicant from a financial aid counselor. Details concerning the timing of the email will be included in admission letters." So it's possible that they will be released at almost, but not exactly, the same time. hoping for tomorrow!
  12. were you able to log in eventually? this could have been some kind of tech glitch rather than them turning off your portal. i was admitted to a GSE program and got a similar error (different code) but i just had the wrong password. anyone else seeing this?
  13. I’m hoping we will still get decisions Wednesday, but maybe later in the day (>5pm?) due to the lost time. So much waiting!!! Also curious about the counselor info disappearing—did they not realize it was visible before? And if they didn’t, curious why they (apparently) assigned one to everybody. Hmmm.
  14. *tries to figure out how many people are in the meeting -> what they are discussing, based on how much food they ordered* ?
  15. Also, I wouldn’t be surprised if they make a point NOT to enter decisions until that final day, because a mishap/accidental release could be disastrous. My guess is they keep all the data offline until the meeting when matt reads each name individually.
  16. I believe we are also a reminder that elite schools segment their pool by sector/profile type and whittle down because they want a diverse class. So a lot of the timing could simply have to do with which meeting we were discussed in. They could be entering notes rather than decisions.
  17. Thanks for this! However, I’m still not convinced that they’re actually entering decisions during all this updating. Matt has posted about how the final step is to transfer all the data from meeting spreadsheets into the portal, and one of his staff looks on while another enters the data. So they could be doing other things. FWIW, each one of these waves of portal changes ended with an admit rate at or above the admit rate for HKS (~20%).
  18. They’ve mentioned WFH in prior posts but I’m concerned about that final step where they all sit in the conference room together reading names. What if one of them can’t come? Do they have to wait a day? Maybe someone else can cover.
  19. BTW - I can’t think of a more effective way for HKS to make us all feel unworthy than this Friday blog post about their alumnus who was a Navy SEAL, lost his legs, and then won an Olympic gold medal. Well played, HKS. And I was proud of myself for going for a run today!
  20. Gah! Matt bikes to work year-round! ?
  21. Looks like we have at least 3 blog posts to go, but we shouldn’t assume they will post 20+ entries in this series. In 2016 there were only 15 posts but the last 3 were the same as in 2017: admitted decision description, the post about reading each name individually (could see this one getting skipped), and then the post announcing the release of decisions. So probably Wednesday. Ahhhh!!!
  22. got into the Heller MPP with a 60% merit scholarship. so that'll get me through the weekend! fingers crossed for everyone getting their SIPA decisions as we speak!
