Seemed to be mixed based on my reading (some people shared the initials of their counselor) but that doesn't necessarily disprove what you're saying. I don't think it's weird because it takes a long time, though. I think it's weird because it causes confusion and results in lots of speculation and (probably) lots of inquiries that they wouldn't get otherwise.

It could be, but IMHO it'd be a bad one for reasons other than their internal workflow: it creates confusion for candidates (they seem to take candidate experience very seriously given how much effort they put into the blog), and would likely result in lots of people bugging the counselors who aren't even going to get in. Wouldn't it be just as easy to not post any counselor info for anybody, and then post it for the admits once decisions come out? I can't imagine that taking much longer. Unless this is the only way for counselors to get access to the contents of financial aid applications, I don't know why they'd need to do this. And we submitted our financial aid info through the same portal as the admissions app, not through MYFAID.

Yep, lots of reasons not to read too much into timing. Sometimes schools group applications by sector/experience/profile type and then pick admits from within those subgroups, which could all happen at different meetings. I still stand by my feeling that it's SUPER weird to assign someone a counselor and then reject them. It could very well be what's happening, but it'd be weird nonetheless.

Can’t remember exactly where it was written, but yes. They also mentioned at the Open House. Sounds like they’re on track to do this based on the fellowship interviews happening and all the people being assigned counselors. BTW - has anyone NOT been assigned a counselor at this point?
-
That is their plan; a change from prior years.

Thank you, super helpful! Although it looks like this publication is several months old (it advertises the Sept open house) and the timeline could have changed, it's consistent with the timing of the blog posts/people's fellowship interviews/etc.

Hello, yes! At least we have some good news to hold us over until next week - congrats!

on a lighter note, it always makes me feel a little more at ease when i see typos in Matt's blog posts. they are humans after all! please have mercy on us!

They’ve probably gotten a ton of inquiries about this today; hopefully it’s addressed in the next blog post. We have nothing to compare it to because of this year’s new timeline with aid. Gahhhhh!

probably alphabetical. I also wouldn't be surprised if they have a designated person/people for international applicants, since there's a whole set of additional financial statements they need to complete. with so many of us being assigned counselors it's starting to seem like it is not a sign of admission, but at the same time it seems bizarre to me to show a name (with or without contact info) to people who might be rejected. sigh - maybe we all got in!

i hate to add to the reading of tea leaves, but i'm curious: for those who have been assigned a counselor, does it say (Active) next to their name?

It's all very mysterious! I agree that it'd be too obvious of a tip-off for them to not try to avoid that. However, these systems often have annoying quirks that users can't control. We also shouldn't read too much into people not being assigned counselors yet, as they could be inputting that information as we speak for all applicants (the twitter notes that they had an early-morning meeting today). In any case, it does seem odd to me that they would identify a specific contact for people who might not get in, because admissions offices get so many inquiries and HKS makes a point to direct people to the generic/departmental accounts and keep direct contact information (other than names on the Meet the Staff page) off the website and blog. Unless a significant number of people still don't have counselors in a day or two, I don't think we can interpret anything yet (other than that we're getting closer!!!)
