  1. Even if the 15th falls on a Sunday? They're pretty committed to this whole 15th business...
  2. Does anyone think Yale decisions might go up today?
  3. Does anyone know when Yale's MAR results will come out this year? It's usually the 15th, but the 15th is a Sunday. So can we expect results on Friday the 13th? Actually, that makes sense...
  4. So are we pretty sure that all subfields are out? No one has posted on the results section aside from 2. Should we abandon all hope?
  5. I was liturgical studies. Thanks for the condolences. I did apply again, but I have not heard anything as yet. I wonder if that means I'm dinged... Have all subfields gone out yet, or just Moral Theo and WRWC? Does anyone know? What number are you on the waitlist?
  6. What program did you apply for the MTS for? WRWC? I was waitlisted last year and didn't get in.
  7. If you are in at Notre Dame, you will hear back around Feb. 22/23. If you don't hear back then, you got dinged. I was waitlisted last year to their MTS. The year before that I was dinged. Hence I know. From experience.
  8. Yes--I hope to have my rejections by Friday.
  9. It looks like some ND applicants got interview invites today. Does anyone know if they have all gone out? Or should we still be holding our breath for certain areas of emphasis?
  10. The middle name in conjunction with location is the killer.
  11. So how do you purge your internet presence? Delete accounts? Or just delete any polarizing posts or anything suggestive of politics/religion?
  12. What if our political leanings and theological leanings are evident on the face of our social media accounts? Are we S.O.L. for every school whose adcom members are of a different political/theological bent? I am worried that my extracurriculars will sink me. I've said some pretty jerky things online before (cough...twitter). How devastating is all that stuff?
  13. Does this happen? And how do I set up such an alert system? Do schools use google results to screen applicants???
  14. Cool. That's actually a really interesting question--especially in light of the Church's longtime teaching that the liturgy is the "privileged place of evangelization." How many liturgy applicants are there for ND's theology phd? I wonder if it's over/underrepresented in terms of theology applications. Have you heard any other interesting tidbits about their selection process/program in general?
  15. I'm also a ND liturgy applicant. What is your area of interest in liturgy? What faculty members did you want to work with? Do you have much in the way of language training? Latin/Greek? I'm happy to have found you. There seem to be fewer liturgy applicants on this board than NT/Patristics students.
  16. Hey what do y'all think of reusing statements of purpose? I was waitlisted to a program last year, and this year I basically just reused last year's SOP but with minor tweaks and adjustments. It really was what I meant to say, and I think it was a pretty good SOP...so why change it? Should I have?
  17. Awesome answer. What's a "confessional statement"? I'm Catholic--can I not even hint at this in my S.O.P. (even at Notre Dame/Marquette)? How about writing sample? Can writing sample show that I'm attacking a particular controversy from a Catholic point of view? Is it really half of applicants that aren't serious contenders? This actually makes me feel much better about my own app...
  18. XYPathos, why are only half taken seriously? What is wrong with/dieficient about those who aren't? Is it that they didn't fill out the app right (that level of bad) or they have mediocre grades/GRE scores?
  19. The politically incorrect truth: DRASTICALLY. HIGHER.
  20. While I agree that she can improve her verbal with practice, I think quant is the easiest to improve. Just learn the geometric formulas and do a bunch of practice problems...It's not high level math that is indicative of IQ. Verbal stuff, especially reading comprehension, probably has more to do with native ability following a line of reasoning. But maybe I'm wrong. Just my impression.
  21. Wow, that is great information. Thanks so much. I hope to see you at interview weekend as well. If your language training is strong, you probably have a fighting chance (likely far better than me) at getting an interview. Are you sure those are the PhD averages? That seems like it would be closer to their MTS average.
  22. 161 isn't bad. Especially with your quant., which schools are looking at more and more. What ND program are you applying to? Do you know when they start reviewing? Also, how'd you figure out their average is 164?
  23. If you don't mind my big-nosed prying, what was your verbal? Mine's a middling 164, and I'm thinking of retaking. Didn't get a chance to after last year because life is super busy.
  24. Does anyone know when Notre Dame and Yale begin reviewing PhD applications, especially for the Liturgical pool? I thought Notre Dame called for interviews in late January...
