  1. Thanks for the quick reply. Is 164 Verbal considered "safe"? Does TAing help an application, or are schools generally indifferent to it? Many schools say 4.5 is their cutoff. Also, I've seen many schools that simply say they don't care about the writing at all. Is this generally not the case, in your experience? Perhaps it's a "Yale" thing?
  2. Hi all. I am really quite confused about PhD admissions. I've heard various things from various people--everyone has their own theory on what AdComms are looking for. Do any decent PhD programs accept applicants with limited language training (1 yr Latin/1 yr German)? No B.S.: What GRE scores are "safe" for top programs in theology/religion? I have a 164V/156Q/4.5. Should I retake, or is this a waste of time? Obviously my MA theology gpa is stellar (because prettymuch everyone applying for PhD programs has stellar grades...3.95ish). I have a TAship this semester, but no publications. Am I S.O.L. for all TT programs?
  3. PhD. Apparently at least three accepted students have not yet informed the school of their intentions to matriculate. I don't know what the hold up is. Usually, if a student plans to accept, do they accept immediately? The longer it takes to accept, does it make it more likely that such students will turn down their offer?
  4. Mine did not change. They said that letters would go out on the 26th. By this, I'm assuming they meant via the application portal. However, my data is for liturgical studies. I am not sure about systematics. Liturgical studies just decided on acceptances today.
  5. I am a JD/attorney also. Perhaps we just cancelled out the perceived uniqueness of our respective apps. Is your LLM in tax? Well, I got denied. If you didn't hear today, then you are denied also, says the school. Bummer. I've worked my ass off for two years to get into this particular program. Totally dazed and confused. I'm not quite sure what ND is looking for in candidates. Whatever it is, I didn't have it. Are there any other solid/respectable programs that are still taking apps?
  6. It looks like, from past years, ordinarily admitted people are notified in early March till mid March. This year, I only see two admits, who were notified in late February. There are no rejections posted yet. I wonder if those admitted in February this year were just perfect candidates, and were notified of acceptance asap, or if all acceptances have gone out by now and I am anxiously waiting for absolutely no reason. DE. MORALIZING.
  7. It is. I can't keep checking my e-mail every thirty seconds. My daily productivity has been atrocious for the past two weeks now. Are you still hopeful about your chances, or have you (like me) resigned yourself to self-funding a degree in "paralegal" from Devry or Keller Graduate School of Management? ^^^Actually, the way my application season is going, I don't think I'd get in to either program.
  8. So here we are...It's going on Thursday and I have not heard back from Notre Dame's MTS program about results. They assured me that results would be promulgated by Monday. Obviously, for whatever reason, results were not posted as scheduled. I am not an idiot, so I have largely given up hope of being admitted. However, my idiotic, optimistic side is urging me that perhaps, maybe, possibly, I have been waitlisted--which I'd take as a moral victory at this point. Does anyone out there, lurker or otherwise, know what is going on? Why is it taking so long for results to come out this year? This was my number one program and I've basically been watching "Rudy" every night in anticipation of my unlikely acceptance. Only two acceptances have been posted for this year's MTS class on Grad Cafe's survey section. Both candidates had insanely high numbers (close to 170 V and 4.0 ugpa). I have a 3.95 ggpa and 164V/4.5W, BTW). No rejections have been posted yet. Has everyone who has not heard been rejected? Could we be waitlisted? Is there still an outside chance that we might be accepted straight up? Please, someone give me some closure. ND gets 180 applicants per year. Surely, someone out there is interested in this topic also.
  9. Again, thank you for the information. That is somewhat comforting. Trying to get in to ND's MTS is like drawing for the inside straight. Do you know if they send denials in real-time? At least, in that case, I could take my "pending" status as an indicator that I haven't been rejected with vigor.
  10. So basically, if we haven't heard, we're dinged? I guess I don't see why they would let some people know they were accepted early, but only let some know at the last possible minute. I guess I can hope for the waitlist?
  11. Dinged from Yale MAR(Bible). Has anyone heard from Notre Dame affirmatively yet? I have it on good information that we will be hearing tomorrow by the end of the day. But I am wondering if that's when they tell all the rejects, or whether some admitted applicants hear then as well. Do we still have a chance?
  12. I just took it as a way of saying that I better start looking at different programs...
  13. It seems like whenever I've applied to anything in my life, I always get a courteous letter explaining to me that I'm one of the finest human beings ever, but that unfortunately, that year was the most competitive year in human history, and that a whole host of even finer human beings applied, so they can't let me in--despite my superlative fineness. For once in my life, I'd like to get a letter detailing that, although I'm super mediocre and have little talent to speak of, the applicant pool was filled with even bigger losers, so the institution has been forced to approve my lousy application under protest. I'd much prefer the latter to the former. No such luck as yet.
  14. I have crossover interests in Bible and Liturgical Studies. Sadly, I chose to apply to their Bible program instead of Liturgy, only later to find out that Bible is far and away the most competitive for admissions. So I prettymuch sowed my own poison on that one.
  15. How did you get into UVA?! Their website says they "regularly turn down perfect GRE scores." After reading that, I decided to save my fifty dollars. What magical elixir does one drink to make himself a remotely attractive candidate with respect to such a staggering degree of competition? Can you disclose your stats? I didn't even bother to apply because I only got a 164 V and only have a 3.9+ grad GPA (from mid tier, regional school).
  16. Thanks for the wishes and commiseration. Likewise, good luck on your apps. I'm actually surprised there's not more action on this board the night before YDS releases results. We're in the eye of the hurricane. I guess everyone dropped dead from high blood pressure already. If that's the case, I might have a chance at being admitted after all...
  17. I don't understand the purpose of the priority deadline if all applicants hear of their acceptance/rejection on the same date. It can't be for financial aid, because financial aid apps were uniformly due March 1. Confused. Anyone have any insight? I've lurked here for years, and you gradcafe brehs seem to have the scoop on prettymuch everything. Also, I still have not heard from Notre Dame. So I am assuming with some degree of certitude that I was dinged. Is this a justifiable assumption, or is there still a glimmer of hope? I'm pretty sure they called the chosen few double-secret-probation applicants in February. I guess I can hope for the waitlist...
  18. I have checked the status of my app every day since Jan. 15. Without exaggeration. If decisions do not post tomorrow, I am going to have an anxiety attack, and then yell at a stranger for no good reason.
