  1. Hi, I have applied a few times knowing that I wasn't really qualified (I did not decide to pursue social work until after my undergrad which was a BSc in Biology and my GPA was atrocious) but felt going through the process was good practice for when I was a stronger applicant. This is the first year that I have felt like I had a strong application as I have spent the last couple of years gaining experience (which proved to be difficult without a related undergrad) and the coursework/ grades that are necessary. I think it really depends on the year and who else is applying to the program. Judging by the posts on here it looks like some really amazing candidates have applied this year. Last year my rejection letter from Laurier wasn't helpful at all but the first time I applied to the program a couple of years ago the rejection letter included information about the applicants for that year. I just pulled it out and it said for that year the successful applicants had at least an 80% average in the final year of study and equivalent of two to four years paid or volunteer experience in human service organizations (3500 hours = 2 years). I've been striving to be that type of applicant over the course of the last couple of years. But again, that is just a snapshot into one application cycle and this year could be different. I didn't go through your other posts to see if you talked about your experiences; but keep in mind that your references and life/work experience play a pretty big role in their decision as well, so a GPA of 78 might be totally okay! Good luck!
  2. Congrats on your acceptance to the Waterloo post grad BSW!!! I was waitlisted for the program today, trying to stay positive and keeping my fingers crossed that I will be attending in the fall but definitely had a bit of a meltdown when I received the email. I was pretty confident I would get into this program as my backup to a 2 year MSW at Laurier. Getting waitlisted for a BSW has pretty much killed all hope I had for the MSW. They were not able to tell me how far down the list I am or how many people they typically end up admitting off the waitlist but they did tell me the list is quite small. Wondering if there is anyone else on here who was accepted to this program and doesn't plan on attending because they have been accepted into MSW programs?
