  1. From last year I remember these questions Why apply to this program? What is your main research interest? What makes you want to work with the certain POI? (Depending on if that is how they do things) What makes you a good fit for this program? What in life as prepare you for this opportunity One might have asked me why they should pick me over other candidates. Best of Luck! If it helps most of my interviews were pretty chill.
  2. Ha yea, thanks for the well wishes. I can't do anything but laugh since it's a sucky spot. One hour thinking you made it the next it got ripped away.
  3. Scratched that apparently it was a glitch in the system. It was fun having joy for a couple of hours.
  4. Got my first acceptance from the University of Albany! So happy to finally get the first one off the board.
  5. Well it's just a guess given last years results from the 2 people who said they have interviewed on the 20th/21. It's not going to be a fun few days ?
  6. From what I recall Clemson made the first contact to people in February ish. I expect Rice to send emails tomorrow or Tuesday which will make some rough days haha
  7. Hi, sometimes the program itself tells you the number of previous years if you look at their website. I believe Rice mentions roughly 140 applications for 10 spots (I am not sure if this is just I/O specifically or all psychology fields). USF I think is 130 for 4-5 spots. Colorado State has a similar ratio.
  8. If it helps (It does not help my anxiety) but I am pretty sure at least Rice will make contact this week given last year. USF/Georgia Tech might as well.
  9. Hi I would not worry too much about the GRE. As long as it clears the benchmarks I don't think schools care too much. We have some schools in common (Penn State/USF/Albany) and I have not heard much back either. Your research experience is better than mine so I think that should be a plus for you. I think you have a good shot but I always found I/O to be a hard field to judge what a top candidate looks like. Since USF is such a top program it's hard to feel confident in getting in!
  10. Congrats! From my experience being near the top of the waitlist means you have a good shot at getting admissions (Especially for non top 5) so I would not be too bummed out and will be sending good wishes! P.S I did go to Baruch for my Masters if you want any tips/questions how the school is.
  11. @psychnerd92Yea I think the hard part is not thinking it was a fluke last year (got off some waitlist) and wasted my only chance to get a PHD which caused some uneasy bad dreams!
  12. I applied to 9 programs mostly for Work-Family conflicts. Since I have been accepted before but turning them down it's a weird feeling of knowing I can get in (and my resume/cv is improved from last year) but worried I might have blown my chance. It's not fun!
  13. Thanks for the good thoughts! I added a teaching job I started recently to my resume/CV that will hopefully look good for the schools! Also edited some of my information about a poster presentation. In terms of slowness last year at this time I believe I had two interview requests (Tulsa/Ohio) and that was it. I got my first rejection on the 16th from Wayne State so it seems I/O psych is just a bit slower to do the work compared to clinical/counseling/Neuro. Last year I got two rejections from schools past April 15th.
  14. Ops I just realized I might have mistyped. George Mason admission told me that can't upload my new CV because my application was already sent to faculty review so I think they are at least further along in the process. Rice was cool with it. On your second point, I applied to GM/Rice/Saint Louis/USF/Penn State/Albany/Ohio/Colorado State/Georgia Tech. GM and Penn State are the only ones who directly told me that they can't update my CV on the app so I guess they are moving on the process of going through students. This year it seems a bit slower because when I applied last year Ohio offered me an interview on January 5th and still no word on anybody this year.
  15. Nothing on my end so far other than this week most of my schools were cool with me sending an updated CV for my application so I guess that means those schools have not begun their official review yet. And @HopingForOne I applied to some schools you have too (George Mason/GT/Rice) and I think since they did not accept a new CV since they said it's been sent forward to faculty that they are far along in the process that interviews might come next week. Just a guess though.
  16. Hello, this is my second cycle for Ph.D. programs. (3rd if you count my masters' search) I actually got 3 offers last year and 1 more I barely missed out on but I turn them down because I did not feel they were the correct one for me. So I made the tough decision of reapplying this cycle which has good and bad to it: Good: I have gotten into programs before! My profile has gotten stronger in terms of conference presentation/research I finished my masters so I have a final GPA. My GPA in both UG and Grad School is strong. Even stronger just looking at my major GPA for UG I am a minority candidate who was the first in the family to graduate cool I have a lot of volunteer experience helping out disadvantaged populations I also have teaching experience as well LOR I think are strong, Got one from my thesis advisor, the professor I worked with in lab and my supervisor in my internship in an I/O field My diversity statement and SOP are much better written this cycle Bad: Since I turn down those schools I have even fewer options to apply to this cycle (I wish we could be counseling psych and have over 150 programs we can apply too ?) I am also a bit more location fixed in that I rather go to a more urban city or at least not a small college town which again lower my sc.hool choice I applied to 8 schools and 4 of them feel sort of reach school so I am worried I won't get an interview from them at all ? While I have research experience I feel it still lacks compared to other top candidates. If I am generous I can say I have 2 years of research experience counting master thesis+ Lab No publications Relevant work experience is sort of weak. So my head is telling me I just have to get 1 offer and it's good but my heart is a nervous wreck. Going through this 2 times does offer me a different experience. Best of luck to all and it will probably be a long wait since I/O likes to take a while lol
