  1. I think a Target gift card would be a great idea. I think most SLP's love Target lol. I'm also planning to give a thank-you gift to my supervisor when my placement ends in a few weeks and will likely give her a gift card to there. If not Target, a gift card to Starbucks, Amazon, etc. would be a good idea too.
  2. Thank you and congrats to you too!! I am also a little nervous. But I read from a few other people who were interviewed that it's best to just relax and be yourself! I'll see you there :)
  3. I will also be attending the interview in Dallas on Nov 8th! I am so thrilled! Yes, USAHS's MS-SLP program is currently a candidate for accreditation, which all schools have to go through at some point. I believe they have to be in good standing during the candidacy process for 5 years before being fully accredited; however it does not hinder your ability to earn your CCC's if you graduate from a program that is still in candidacy status. They explained this during the webinar (which they have every few months or so). I'm also from California and it is one of the few states that they currently can accept students from based on contractual arrangements for clinical placements. Definitely join in on one of their informational webinars; they explain the details of their program really thoroughly and are so friendly!
  4. If I haven't received anything from them yet (acceptance, rejection, or interview), would it be safe to assume that I didn't get in? Judging that it's near the end of March (and they did say in their last email that all decisions will be sent out by March 31st), my guess is that I didn't get in. I'm constantly checking my email because I'd like to know already if I should move on to more applications (planning to also apply to Univ. of St. Augustine and NYU's distance program if Biola is a no-go). Any insight would be so appreciated!
  5. I just called and emailed several different local private practices and hospitals in my area asking if they have any opportunities for observations/shadowing, volunteering, etc. A few of them did respond and one of them even took me on as a volunteer and I am loving it! Don't be afraid to call around and show your interest and enthusiasm for the field. The right place will eventually find you!
  6. Hi! I'm from Los Angeles county. I'm applying to Cal State Los Angeles (where I did my undergrad), Cal State Northridge, Cal State Long Beach, Biola University, Chapman University, NYU (online program) and Cal State Fullerton. My biggest concern is my not-so-competitive GPA (just at a 3.0). I'm hoping and praying I can compensate for it by doing well on my GREs (which I'm taking next month), writing a statement of purpose that stands out, positive letters of rec, and experience (currently volunteering at a pediatric private practice).. pretty much the rest of my application LOL. We shall see.. keeping my fingers crossed!
