  1. Say you didn't get funding anywhere. Should you go? Or wait another year and try again for funding the next year?
  2. You probably know more about the academic side of USC for queer theory than I do, but I'm going into queer theory and digital technology this year (at Temple, hopefully) and I'm from the LA area. LA has an incredible queer scene and history, so you may want to consider the kind of community you'll be around and your options for first hand research or experiences. I don't know about UIUC, but I know that LA has so many opportunities in that area. Also, I've heard that UCLA has a pretty good queer theory program so that also might be a point of consideration. If you don't already know this, USC is sort of in a seedy area so you may need to plan to commute or at least go in with the knowledge that you may not be able to live in the best of areas.
  3. Thanks for the help. Do you think that they would have put the funding info. in the hard copy letter? I just don't understand why they would send out an e-mail saying that funding decisions were going to be made in 2 weeks. Do you think that they'll reassess funding after people accept/reject? Or maybe they're just sending e-mails out like that for fun!
  4. I also got an acceptance to the Temple PhD Lit program through an e-mail this week that also had the 2 weeks funding line, but I never got my hard copy letter. I wonder if I'd been accepted since February, but just never got the info??? I made a call to the director today, but he asked me to call back tomorrow so that he could actually spend time speaking with me. He sounded hurried, but like he still wanted to talk to prospective students. I'm thinking maybe the English dept. doesn't even know what their funding is yet... Or maybe the graduate school decides who gets the fellowships/TAships? Anyway, I'll post the information I find out.
  5. I'm planning to accept my admission into the PhD Literature program at Temple for this fall. I'm originally from California, but have lived in Wyoming since I graduated from the University of Wyoming. Any suggestions about campus housing versus off campus renting? How about getting in touch with people who might want a roommate? Also, what is an average monthly rent payment off campus in the more student-friendly areas?
  6. I was accepted for Temple's PhD Lit program yesterday by e-mail. The e-mail said that I should have already received a hard copy letter, but I didn't. The e-mail also said that it would be about two more weeks before they would decide about funding.
