  1. Hi everyone, i'm a new grad student starting a PhD-biosciences program this Fall 2019. I look forward to meeting everyone - anyone else going to UCLA this fall?
  2. That's pretty nice to not have to interview with all the other campus visits going on.
  3. Im seeing some people from UCLA chemistry programs getting admissions. Do they not have to interview or did their application wow the adcomms?
  4. Yes! That is my dilemma, I like school A, but school B is my top choice. That's why I wanted to secure my interview for school A while waiting for school B. But you're right, the community is small and could hurt me in the future.
  5. Hi, what is the general advice for accepting interview offers while waiting for other interviews from different schools? I'll accept school A's interview invite (they require an answer within 2 days), but if school B sends an interview invite (in the next couple weeks) that fall on the same days, is it frowned upon to decline school A's invite after travel arrangements are made?
  6. Did you by chance find out or call/email them?
  7. Did your invite just arrive via email?
  8. Does anyone know if UCSF -tetrad does rolling admission where applications are considered as theyre submitted? Or do they start looking through applications after the deadline?
  9. Hi, Many of the biological science programs that i'm applying for in California leave the GRE scores as optional. That being said, my scores are 153V 161Q and 4.5AW. Although some schools de-emphasize GRE scores, i'm assuming some of the professors are "old-school" and have a cut-off score in mind. My GPA is good, so i'm wondering if it's necessary to submit the scores or if not submitting the scores will harm me (perhaps they believe I scored low or just too lazy to take the test).
  10. Hi, thanks for taking the time to read this. I've done a lot of research on the "optional GRE" portion of applications but I wanted to see if there was anyone who got accepted into top schools for science PhD without having submitted their GRE. Sure schools may say it's "optional," but top schools/older generation application reviewers may consider you did poorly or youre too lazy to take the test if you don't submit one. I've read a recent article where a reporter was allowed to sit in anonymous schools during the application cycle and professors did not even look at applications if the student did not meet a certain GRE score. Had anyone gotten into a top university without submitting their GRE?
  11. Hi everyone, quick question about pass/no pass and withdraw questions. In my last 2 years of college: I took 4 GE classes pass/no pass and 2 coding classes pass/no pass. I also took a coding class + lab but withdrew for 2 W because I wanted to prioritize my time for science classes and spending more time in research. All major and science courses taken for a grade. Overall: 6 Pass and 2 Withdrawals in the last 2 years of college. I regret this, but what's done is done. Do you guys think this will reflect negatively and might affect my chances for interviews at UCSF, Stanford, and a few UC's? This might show i'm not diverse in knowledge, although I still passed. Overall GPA: 3.96 Major GPA: 3.99 Thanks for your time!
