  1. Currently reading Brave New World, by Aldous Huxley (I'm sure you all knew that), and Absalom, Absalom!, Faulkner. I just finished Salman Rushdie's Shame for the second time, and would highly recommend it.
  2. Is this AU's SIS? SIS is an extremely reputable school; if you want to work in DC or in IR in general when you graduate, I would definitely go to SIS. I've never even heard of FSU's program.
  3. Wellup, the last fall semester of my undergrad career is over, and the last grades that my schools will see are in the books. There is nothing else I can do to affect this scenario. Now? Now we wait.
  4. Definitely UCSD IR/PS. It's the only school in the country that is specifically focused on the Pacific Rim. Also, you should probably post this in the Government Affairs section...that's where all us IR kids are!
  5. I applied to seven, for security/IR programs. I know I'll get in somewhere, just a matter of if it's Georgetown or Not Georgetown!
  6. I, too, am both a grad school and a gradcafe addict...the saddest part is that it's the middle of finals, I have three papers to write, and I still spend time just looking at my schools' websites. As if something will have changed.
  7. Yeah, it was fine for me...have you called again recently? It's only 4:08 in CA right now, maybe someone will pick up. It could be just a flaw in the system right now.
  8. That's weird, I don't know why it wouldn't let you submit. I sent my app for the MPIA last week, but I'm pretty sure my last recommender didn't get his letter in on time; my transcripts didn't make it there yet, either. Looks like I'll be waiting till March to hear back.

  10. "She went to music school for two years before switching to poli sci? The fuck?"
  11. Oh don't get me wrong, I started my statement back in July...I've been living this hell for quite some time. I finally just submitted them because I couldn't stand to have them open to revisions any longer! Plus, us MA kids don't hear back till March...you Ph.Ds have it good!
  12. Hello there, all you Fall '11ers! I just submitted six of my seven applications, and I am feeling fine!
  13. There's really no benefit to submitting them early beyond your own peace of mind, which is why I will be submitting mine ahead of time. Adcomms aren't going to make any real decisions before the deadline, so the only reason I'll be submitting mine in early December is because I'm tired of obsessing over the things--I started my SoP in JULY.
  14. This thread is for everyone. I'm hoping a lot of master's candidates will respond because I tend to hear a lot about the Ph.D process, but Ph.Ds are certainly welcome here. Where are you starting anew?
  15. What made you go for Pitt over Georgetown?
  16. It's that time again. I always like when there's one thread for everyone to share their anxieties, struggles, and triumphs, so let's kick this party off: where are you applying? What do you want to do? How are you going to survive the time between when you press "Submit" and when the gatekeepers notify? I'll share my schools first, in the hopes that this thread will actually take off. I'm applying primarily to security studies programs. The finalists are (in rough order of preference): Georgetown Korbel (U Denver), TIED WITH Elliot (GW) American SIS Patterson (Kentucky) Kansas State GO!
  17. Regarding just the tuition, I'll most likely be receiving an ROTC scholarship. However, even if I don't, I do not plan on being in the military forever, so I want the best preparation possible for my return to civilian life.
  18. Thanks very much for your response; I'm going to be taking a lot of time for the personal statements.
  19. I'm in a bit of an unusual situation. My goal is to do a MA in Security Studies, beginning next fall; my first priority, however, is to complete ROTC during grad school, as I do not have time in undergrad. I believe I'm competitive for MA programs in general; I'll have somewhere between a 3.8-3.9 by the time I graduate, and when I took the GRE with no preparation, I got 650V and 650Q--my writing score was very low, for reasons unknown, but I'll be taking it again; I think I can raise my verbal score significantly, as well. Despite this, I am, like I'm sure many of you are, a panicker. I psyche myself into believing I'm not going to get in anywhere, and so I ask you: am I aiming at the right places? Or, should I apply to schools for MAs in political science as well, in case I don't get into any security programs? Remember, I need to get in somewhere so that I can finish ROTC, so despite my love of reputation and societal approval when it comes to schools, I will go where I need to go. The schools: GWU Georgetown Johns Hopkins (DC) The Korbel School Texas A&M Kansas State
