Nice! Did you get an email from the DGS or just the email telling you to check the app portal?
DGS. was told it's not uncommon for potential students to move off the wait list but not much more than that

Did UVA say anything to you about how often people get off the waitlist/odds of acceptance in your waitlist letter?
i'm on the wait list for UVA too but don't have the answer!

i'm in my 20s and think older students with a variety of motives and experiences outside of academia enrich the discipline

Hi everyone, does anyone have any information about USC? It seems that they admitted some people a few weeks ago, and judging from previous stats, they should have sent out rejections last week... Is it safe to assume that everyone else has been rejected?
i don't know about USC, but we both interviewed with UCI. were you told anything about when we might hear back?

waiting is getting tougher

I was accepted a couple weeks ago. I'm waiting on news of funding. At what point is it ok to cave and send an email asking about whats up with funding?

That really depends on the program. Were you admitted to one with no mention of funding?
I'm wondering the same thing. I was accepted and told I'd hear more about the program and other things soon. I hope the other things include funding.

If you read the post, @telkanuru is clearly talking about the perception of a job applicant with a degree from Kansas versus the perception of an applicant with a degree from Prinecton.
wasn't clear to me!

the UKansas student would have to be an order of magnitude smarter and more motivated to produce a CV (and a dissertation) equal to the Princeton student's. And of course if they were, why would the be at UKansas and not at least at one of those top-20 programs @psstein mentioned?
to be clear, being in a top-20 program means being smarter and more motivated than somebody at KU?

Writing an MA Thesis - Should I?
in History
Posted · Edited by latecalifornia
I recommend not writing a thesis, especially if it means completing your MA sooner. Seems like a waste of time.
Edit to say I have two MAs. I wrote a 120 page thesis for one and did not do a thesis for the other.
