I just got my first acceptance (UC Davis) and am almost in tears. After starting with 4 rejections, I was having a lot of anxiety and fear. I want to give a shout out to this message board for being so supportive and kind. I haven't been posting much this cycle, but reading y'alls comments to each other has been really helpful and comforting. All the best to everyone!!!!

Most programs send out acceptance first and then rejections a few days later (or even later). Waitlists (if a program offers them) sometimes come with the acceptances, sometimes with the rejections, sometimes in between. So if people have reported acceptances, it's possible that you're on a wait list and haven't been notified yet, but it's probably best to prepare yourself for a rejection.

Oh yeah! The last two days have been incredibly quiet--the calm before the storm. Adcomms have decided to go gentle on some before the storm arrives. Most schools I have applied to usually release their decisions in February and I have been dreaming of saying goodbyes to the grad-school-dream (or fancy, as time will decide) once and for all!

Hey, did anyone else see the note from the latest Illinois Urbana-Champaign rejection on the results board? The person said they reached out to the Director of Admissions, who told them all offers had gone out already.
I'm not sure if it's true, but, man, that's a bummer! Another one to cross off my list, I guess...

Agree with @postmodern. It's not that you are not good enough or anything. Wish you (and everybody struggling right now!) good luck and don't lose hope!

Hi everyone! I hope you're all doing well! I received a phone call at 4pm from the University of Michigan and was accepted into the Joint PhD program in English and Education! Again, not sure if anyone applied to this program as well, but if so, you may be hearing back sooner than anticipated!

YES same. It feels like the terrifying quiet before the storm...

Anyone else excited to start hearing back from programs? I've done calculations, and think most of the ones to which I'm applying will get back to me sometime in February. I'm excited and a bit timid at the same time, with no idea about how this will go.

Anyone else already starting to get antsy waiting to hear back? ?

Hey everyone! Just an update--I just received an acceptance email from Michigan State for the doctoral program in Writing, Rhetoric, and American Cultures! I don't think anyone else on here applied there, but I figured I would share some happy news. I hope all of you are doing well and that the apps (and interview @niamhhh) are going smoothly!
