  1. I "THINK" I'm going to be attending Colorado School of Public Health at University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus! The mentor match is amazing, and I absolutely love the assistantship I received. I never thought I would change my mind from my top choice, but here I am, changing my mind.
  2. I just received acceptance into my last program!! Thank you guys for being an outlet these past several months!! Many congratulations to everyone who has been accepted, and to those who were not, please do not give up!!
  3. Well friends, it's mid-March (officially), here's to hoping they put us out of our misery this week.
  4. I understand the stress you are feeling, and thinking about Plan B is always a good idea! I would say to find potential mentors you want to work for and under. Your mentor relationship can make or break your program for you. Not only look at schools, but also start looking at professors who are researching subjects you are passionate about. Then reaching out to them to see if they are taking potential students, and interview them. Are they a good fit for you? Does your research interest align? Do they have the same passions as you? Can you REALLY learn something from them outside of the classroom. Then, you can mention them within your Personal Statement. This will give your PS an actual face to the paper, not just another application. Also, get as much experience as you can. Are there organizations or coalitions within your community you can sit on, go to conferences and learn as much as you can to hone your skills, etc. You've got this!
  5. I TOTALLY agree with this entire post! Within my MPH program we were taught the same thing, extreme optimism -- we will change the world, BUT no one taught me about the red tape, politics, and how incredibly disheartening our field can be! Especially if you are working with marginalized communities and you want to see them have access to the same things other communities have, just to hear a big fat "thank you for your input, but no." To even further drive home your point, DrPH degrees with a focus in leadership is rather new; therefore, we have people within in Leadership positions across the world that do not have a background in Public Health and do not fully understand the need for it to create evidence based prevention techniques, resiliency and social justice. We can never lose hope, but a dash of cynicism helps deal with the hurdles we have to jump every single day. Also, thank you for understand my nervous "haha" because that's exactly what it was -- a nervous chuckle.
  6. Hi, yes, I did not apply to JHSPH -- I am thoroughly happy for everyone who did! I am a very optimistic and hopeful person, which is why I took several years between my MPH and DrPH to work in the field. I am stressed within myself to leave a position I love and I can see change happening every single day. I also sent my congratulations to all of the JHSPH hopefuls! I am happy for them. Outside of that, many of us (myself included) are still in the waiting game. We are allowed to be stressed. I do appreciate your take, however, as I am not trying to be insensitive. The whole point behind my user is everything can be read as sarcasm because we don't know personally know each other -- even if we are fueled by coffee and personality. I am not trying to get into anything with anyone on this thread, especially since we have been encouraging each other for months now.
  7. CONGRATULATIONS ALL HOPKINS HOPEFULS!! But really, this has been a wild ride for all of us -- I'm glad we didn't have to go through this process alone!
  8. I have two acceptances, and one pending result from F2F interview -- I just need this last decision to come through so I can make my decision. Haha.
  9. I'm just really, really ready for this whole process to be over. I hate pouring over all of the forums and living in such high levels of anxiety. I keep telling myself that whatever happens, happens, and I have gotten into two really great programs, but I just want it to be over with. lol Sorry... had to get that off of my chest...
  10. Have you ever considered finding a potential mentor you want to learn from? Seeing who has experience/research in the area you are interested in? That way you can start connecting with them now, and seeing if they are taking any new students in the next cycle? It gives you an actual face on your application, plus it will give you an opportunity to strengthen your application.
  11. I heard from Colorado yesterday, we are in the process of setting up my in-person interview.
  12. I wanted to share this link: https://www.thegradcafe.com/survey/ Type in "Public Health" and you can see the most recent admissions/rejections/waitlists as people submit them. Harvard and Johns Hopkins have started sending out interview information!
  13. Thank you so much! There are pros/cons of all the programs I applied too, but I approached the programs by finding a mentor I wanted to work with, not necessarily the school, because I hear your mentor makes or breaks your doctoral program. So, where ever I do end up going, I know I will learn from some terrific people! UT is my top choice, followed my Colorado, and Washington!
  14. I have! I interviewed and received acceptance into the University of Texas right before the break, I'm still waiting to hear back from Washington (PhD) and Colorado School of Public Health.
  15. Submitted applications on 11/13. My anxiety is getting the better of me, so... I decided to follow some threads. Good luck to everyone applying! Top 2 Programs are UTHealth - Houston and Colorado School of Public Health. Mainly due to potential mentor matches and research interests!
