If you are talking about UT Austin @Carltonjacobs, then the campus visits are scheduled from February 23rd-25th! ?

From my admittedly limited understanding, it is common for MDiv students to pursue an MAR/MTS. Although your UGPA isn't incredibly high, your Masters GPA would definitely help in an application for an MTS or MAR. You should not write off pursuing an MAR/MTS solely off GPA alone. What's most important however, is your ability to write a compelling SoP and Personal Essay that explicitly states your reasons for pursuing an MTS/MAR. It should address why you think a given divinity school can help you explore various questions and how your pursuit of an additional masters fits into your future plans! ?

Congratulations @hahahahaleigh !

Similar to yourself, I thought that reaching out to POIs without a specific reason may be pointless. As such, the only POIs I reached out to were professors who I heard might not be taking graduate students, might be retiring, or transferring to another university. In my experience, this didn't seem to hurt as I secured an interview invitation at my top choice, without frequent communication with my POI. In short, I don't think that failing to reach out to your POI is a deciding factor in the admissions decisions, so I wouldn't worry about it! ?

I can second this - I've been told that the Austin decisions will come out sometime between February 26th and before March 10th. @Carltonjacobs

Congratulations @gorgogliante !

@LSiefferman Curious, are you aware of the GRE/GPA admission stats for Harvard Divinity? Since HDS doesn't report these figures, I have been unable to find even general estimates for the admissions criteria.
-
@Balleu My admissions decision from Northwestern showed up on the ApplyWeb portal. After logging in, a new button, titled "View Your Decision Letter," appeared between the Print Receipt and View Checklist buttons. It might be different for you since you were waitlisted, but I hope that helps!

@appleapple Another must-read on the subject is Michel-Rolph Trouillot's Silencing the Past. It's a succinct study of the silences in historical narratives, what is left out and what is recorded, and what these omissions reveal about inequities of power throughout modern society.

Same boat as @historykeeno and @historygeek with NYU. Hoping for a decision this coming week - good luck to you both!

He actually gave a short talk on James Baldwin at Harvard Divinity School a couple years back that is worth checking out:

YDS MAR Concentrated in "Latinx and Latin American Christianity." Did you apply to YDS as well? If so, what specialization?
-
@Jericho While it has been stated many times on this Forum, I also had a difficult time finding the information on interviews. Typically, the History department interviewers ask about your research interests, scholarly influences, foreign language competency, your strengths and weaknesses, and your overall journey as a scholar. Also, they can be very formal, but are often more informal and laid back than you would assume. Hope this helps!
-
Glad you did this @LSiefferman! I applied to HDS for an MTS and YDS for a MARc so that I can build a more robust understanding of the intersection between politics and religion. Specifically, I want to pursue a PhD in Latin American history in order to examine how religious doctrines inform civilians understandings of previous governments moral authority or lack thereof. HDS is my top choice because the Religion, Ethics, and Politics, specialization engages the intersection I am interested in exploring. Also curious, what are you hoping to focus on? What school is your top choice?

Congratulations! @historygeek

Just confirmed that Recruitment Weekend at UT Austin does entail an interview with my POI. Has anyone been through this interview process and know the types of questions I would be asked?
-
@Sigaba and @Karou thank you for your suggestions!
-
Thank you for your input! Since I'm interested in oral histories I will definitely remember to ask that. How does one go about researching interdepartmental relationships? Should I reach out to current Graduate students to ask them about the department or is that a bit premature?
-
I was just invited for a campus visit, fully-paid, "to explain the program and make sure that it is a good fit for you." There is no mention of an interview so I am a bit confused, should I prepare for a formal interview? Are there important questions I should remember to ask the faculty during my visit?
-
Congratulations @e_randolph!
-
That's awesome @Karou - congratulations!
-
Thank you! Didn't realize UT Austin had a separate program.
-
Just saw that someone was accepted at UT Austin's department; did anyone else receive their admissions decision from Austin and are they willing to share their research background/stats?
-
Same to you! Have you heard anything from your POI at Northwestern about interviews and decisions timelines?
