  1. Hi, I totally agree with you that @the97kid has a solid math background. From my perspective, the admission committee will have their own ways to compare apple (math major students) to orange (your major). IMO, the two most important factors are: your experience with statistics; your preparation for graduate studies. I believe this link can help you: https://stattrak.amstat.org/2016/02/01/gradadvice/ IMO, you should apply to top schools and some safe schools as well. Also keep in mind that the competition for indian students is fierce, because you guys are just too good with standardized tests.
  2. Hi, I think your profile is solid, and you should be able to get into top master programs in the US given your credentials. With that being said, I have some concerns and suggestions for you: 1. What are your ranks in your mathematics classes at your undergrad & grad institutions? I notice that you got some 7,8/10 grades, which might cause suspicion about your mathematical ability. Especially, you got 66/100 in probability theory (in your grad school) -> you might want to explain clearly the level of difficulty of the course in your application. 2. General GRE: your score is stellar. Anyway, If you have time to retake and get > 168 in Quantitative section, it will add more credential to your application (some top schools really care about the Quant section of GRE). 3. GRE Subject Mathematics: Since you are going to apply to very competitive programs, I think you will need at least 80% at mGRE. I don't think a score of 70% in mGRE will hurt your profile, but certainly it won't add much value to your application. A high score in mGRE also will convince the admission committee of your mathematical ability, as well as the level of difficulty of your mathematics courses. 4. You haven't mentioned your research background, which is also an important factor that can help you stand out of the crowd. 5. Schools list: you can consider other schools that also are really good in stats/bio stats: UNCC, Duke, Purdue, UCLA, Michigan Ahn-arbor. Add some safe schools as well, it would help you reduce stress during application season.
  3. I wouldn't suggest you applying for this program, since it's designed for those who are already currently employed and/or will be employed in the local Los Angeles area by the time school begins. If you are willing to apply for another year, I'd suggest you taking a look at Purdue M.S in Statistics. It's a decent program
  4. Hi, Could you please give me some insight about this program? I heard that they have a huge class size, and the PhD placement is not so good, but I can not figure out the reasons since the curriculum looks pretty good to me. Yes I agree, but it seems like their PhD placement is not really good...
  5. Hi everybody, I just got accepted into some programs, and try to decide to choose one. Please kindly give me advice on which school should I choose. My goal is to attend a PhD program in statistics/OR with a research focus on Finance after graduating from the M.S program. Here is my schools list: Duke University - M.S in Statistical Science Columbia University - M.A in Statistics Cornell University - M.Eng in Operations Research The University of Chicago - M.S in Computational and Applied Mathematics I would be very much appreciated if you could give me some pros/cons of each school! Many Thanks!
  6. Hi, anyone apply to Duke M.S in Statistical Science program?
  7. Hi everyone, I am in the process of applying to master programs in Statistics/Operations Research/Financial Mathematics. My undergraduate major is Business, therefore I decided to take the GRE subject mathematics to enhance my application. My result is 770 (74 percentile). My target schools are: Cornell University (OR), Duke University (MS in Statistical Science), Columbia University (OR), University of Chicago (Financial Mathematics). My mGRE score seems to be low, should I submit my mGRE to these schools? Will it have any added value to my application? Thank you for your time!
  8. Hi everyone, I am looking for a good online course in statistics to meet the pre-requisite requirements of Grad school. I want to apply to master program in Data Science/Statistics. Currently, I found the following courses, and would love to hear your opinions regarding these courses: 1. STAT 200 ONL: STATISTICAL ANALYSIS (Taught by UIUC, here is the link: https://online.illinois.edu/online-courses/course-section?termcode=120195&crn=34303&ref=ocs). I am not sure if this is the syllabus of the course or not: http://courses.atlas.illinois.edu/spring2019/STAT200/syllabus.html. 2. STAT 305: Engineering Statistics (Taught by Iowa State University, here is the link: https://courses.elo.iastate.edu/summer/2019/STAT/305/XW/overview. Again, I am not so sure if this is the syllabus for the course: https://wlandau.github.io/stat305/materials.html Thank you guys in advance!
  9. Did you have any offers from other schools? I haven’t got any offers so far ... Congratulations!!! I have to admit that I’m very jealous
  10. Did they send you an email, or you got the result via their website?
  11. I am also an International student (I’m from Asia), maybe because they already rejected me so I haven’t heard anything from them ...
  12. In the result section of this page, you can search for “Duke Statistical Science”. I also haven’t heard anything from them
  13. I notice that someone already got an admission from Duke MS program, have you heard anything back from them?
  14. Yeah I think so too. Hope that we will be classmate soon
  15. Hi I already sent you a message. Please let me know if you want to discuss more with me!
