Applying to Munk 2019, NPSIA, GSPIA, BSIA etc.
Timbit replied to snowflake96's topic in Government Affairs Forum
It's a small program, so it's nice to hear a positive review! There aren't as many people to chat with about their experience as is the case with the bigger programs like Munk, GSPIA, etc. I asked for an extension but they could only give me an extra few days. My quest status changed to 'Deny' today, so it turns out it was good I went with my gut and accepted McMaster haha.- 565 replies

Declined Munk and U of O, so hopefully that helps move the waitlist a bit. The Balsillie MAGG waitlist hasn't moved at all, so I opted to accept a full-ride to McMaster and do their IR program. Conflicted on if I should withdrawn my Balsillie application for 'closure' haha. I just desperately want this to be done with and concrete. ughhh- 565 replies

Which Balsillie program did you apply to? Both programs are quite small and have sent out first round offers, but to the best of my knowledge, have not sent out 2nd round working their way through the waitlist. They have sent out some rejections, meaning if you didn't receive one you are likely waitlisted. You can always email them and ask, they are very nice.- 565 replies

Could anyone who was accepted to the MAGG at Balsillie share their deadline? I am on the waitlist and would love an idea of when they're expecting answers from first round admits.- 565 replies

You can ask for an extension from GSPIA if you need. I did and they were pretty chill about it. Just make sure to include your uOttawa student number in the email and contact API@uottawa.ca - they email me back within the hour confirming my extension.- 565 replies

Lol oops, yes that's probably helpful info haha. Andrew (the MAGG coordinator) told me "We should know in the next few weeks whether we’ll be able to offer you a spot." But GSPIA is only willing to extend my offer till March 31st, so that's just dandy. ?- 565 replies

For anyone still waiting on Balsillie MAGG, I emailed the Program Director and he got back to me pretty quickly with a time estimate and confirmed I was put on their 'reversion list'/waitlist. Just thought I'd share in case anyone was in the same boat.- 565 replies

Thanks CaptinCaptin! Yes, it is definitely an accomplishment and a very exciting moment, but with 2 other offers on the table with 70% funding or full funding, it is hard to justify 50K. ? But hey! that means I may be clearing up a spot for someone waiting to hear haha.- 565 replies

Also just got my official acceptance to Munk - woo! - but no mention funding. Does anyone know if we just didn't get any then? Seems kinda outrageous to be a first-round admit and not receive entrance scholarship.. especially when the program is 25K a year.- 565 replies

There's a Canadian MPPA thread going elsewhere under the 'Government Affairs' section that probably has that info! I'm not sure this thread has as many people applying to that program.- 565 replies

Is anyone else still waiting to hear from MAGG at BSIA? I'm starting to get a little antsy, I have two offers on the table but I really want to hear from them and Munk before accepting anything. I get that its a tiny program, but Im going nuts waiting to hear from them as I know offers are rolling out ?- 565 replies

Update: Called Munk, they were super tight-lipped about what the 'invited' status means but only said that "emailed offers will go out over the next 1-2 weeks", so there ya go folks. Slightly earlier than they originally said.- 565 replies

I checked last year's forum and yep, that means you're in - congratulations! I actually didn't even realize what Acorn was and hadn't activated my JoinId. Anyway, I just did and it just so happens I am also invited! Munk is mad expensive, so I am flattered, but not overly enticed unless the funding offer is solid.- 565 replies

Congratulations! I am happy to hear they are already sending out admissions, sometimes they are notorious for being late to the game with offers ( like early/mid April). I also applied for MAGG and will be crossing my fingers today/tomorrow to hear from them. 'Full funding' from BSIA generally means that in exchange for approx. 10 hours/week of RA-style work with CIGI, your tuition is covered (sometimes + a lil extra, that bit is unclear to me). Anyway, congrats - it's an awesome program and likely my top choice! Is it your top choice as well?- 565 replies

Hi @poutinead, from what I understand, Munk rarely sends out acceptances this early. The first round of acceptances are often for the Munk-Sciences Po Dual Degree applicants, and then they do first round of regular MGA applicants. I think we have a good couple weeks ahead of us before hearing back.

I went with just over a page. Most schools ask for 500 words max, so I felt it wise not to go much longer than that. An LOI should be concise and not fluffy, and U of O's prompt isn't nearly as long as other schools so anything over 2 pages would be serious overkill.- 565 replies

The video component got added to the site around late October/early Nov. It was definitely after application period opened, which tbh I find kinda lame. My video question went fine, but was not very IR related and felt kinda niche for the scope of the program. Ah well, i'm sure it's kinda a throw-away component- 565 replies

@snowflake96 I've applied to U of T, McMaster, and Waterloo, and none have been nearly this confusing. The language is beyond unclear, just to get admissions reqs was a maze, and now I'm also worried about giving my references enough time. Really is a bit discouraging. I find a school's admin can be a make or break factor for a good experience (which is why I didn't apply to York)- 565 replies

I am also waiting for U of Ottawa to process my fee and send me a link to upload my documents. I found their site/application process to be atrocious compared to other programs. I'd love an estimate on how long it took for you to get access to upload your docs- 565 replies
