  1. ye that happened to me too it's for the better tbh i was doing fine ignoring this site for a bit lol (but if anyone finds out i still wanna know bc im a hypocrite)
  2. oh fuck i guess i'm the last one to know that uchicago is out so um time to go #notpanic and #notcry lel
  3. def patriots and the saints! i absolutely hate the chiefs for beating the colts
  4. @mwils15 hm maybe pick up marathon running? jk but yeah im anxious too, though it's really understated for some reason; i keep it in the back of my mind. idk i just have the mindset that, as cliched and seemingly untrue it sounds, everything really does turn out ok in the end, no matter whether you want things to happen a certain way or not, it just works out.... idk, my 2 cents, extremely vague & maybe unhelpful, but one of my guiding philosophies
  5. @sad_diamond yes, psych & english double major for that reason. specifically a psychiatrist or therapist. mental illness has always fascinated me, as well as social behavior
  6. i'm in a similar boat... i think a lot of schools don't really care if you're slightly late, but you can't go crazy with the delay. i don't know, i'm just speculating based on what i've observed. anyone else able to weigh in with more evidence/experience?
  7. oh hm my reading is all over the place, so i can't say 100%! but i think i MOST enjoy dystopian novels (favorite is 1984 lol, i'm THAT girl). I also love classics (i LOVE of mice and men... god...), sci fi (favorite is do androids dream of electric sheep? by philip dick, it kinda crosses over into dystopian), and nonfiction historical music scene books (mainly about punk, straight edge hardcore, metal, etc). anything angsty or depressing is good. nabokov is a great author. yeah but i love random books from all genres pretty much lol EDIT: other fave books of mine include roses by leila meacham (a random romance, just because), the little prince by antoine de saint exupery (it is so deep and innocent, just a gem), and the joy luck club OR the kitchen god's wife, both by amy tan (i love chinese cultural fiction bc im chinese) I HAVE SO MUCH I WANT TO READ GODDAMMIT AND SO LITTLE TIME
  8. @dangermouse ooo audiobook i have no patience for that hahah.... im considering moving dune up on my list bc another friend of mine is just pressing me to read it haha. what genres do you usually read?
  9. LOL i just read the marathon part and i think i died of laughter sorry if this is incredibly traumatic to you... im a runner as well! it's such a great outlet, the high is unbeatable, although idk i've never tried any drugs before
  10. @savay i just finished the book last night! i'll admit that it's not my cup of tea, but i can understand why it might be someone else's: it's that HARDCORE science fiction. like, FULL of hardcore science. like, stacks on stacks on stacks of that hardcore theoretical physics stuff. it was hard for me to get through even as a former math major/previously-considering-a-physics-major student (before i ultimately chose english of course lol). the book was also kinda hard for me to get through because i didn't like the three-body virtual world much, and that's kinda the basis of the story. in any case, it definitely deserved the hugo award because the author's incorporation of science and chinese culture is just ridiculously good. ancillary justice is actually on my huge list of books to read! i also want to read sci fi greats like dune. and im trying to read some neil gaiman, neverwhere is probably next on my list.
  11. @jadeisokay dude r u and i the same person? i was just watching the colts v. chiefs playoffs and love hockey lol... i try to hit the gym 3-4 days of the week but usually end up working out nearly every day bc i love sweat and adrenaline what's everyone been reading? i've been reading a lot, too, currently finishing up the three-body problem by liu cixin and will move onto some music oral history books. what are some good book recs y'all have? EDIT: does anyone use goodreads? i could really use some friends on there for recs
  12. hello, new here. @pdh12 penn state already came out with interviews? i literally just submitted my application a few days ago! although i did apply to the english lit phd, not complit; i'm assuming your deadline was much earlier? either way, congrats xx @flungoutofspace @swarthmawr holy crap i was worried as hell about that singular uchicago interview posting lmao... and then i discovered i could just make an account and search through forums for things like that. i wonder though - who would try to worry people like that?
